Yesterday, LMFF’s big boss Graeme Lewsey chatted to us over coffee, talking through the 2013 LMFF program, complete with international guests, local modelling stars and a hoard of amazing cultural events.
The excitement Graeme has for the event is surpassed by none – his enthusiasm to share the news of the festival was clearly evident in his voice and the yellow post it notes riddled through his personal copy of the festival program.
So, the big news? London designer Mary Katrantzou will be the major draw card at LMFF 2013, opening the festival on Tuesday 19 March. She will also be a speaker at the Business Seminar, one of thirty speakers (and one of nine internationals) participating in the business events, making the intellectual sessions even more appealing.
Over 47 designers will be participating in this year’s festivities, with a welcome return from Sass & Bide, Easton Pearson and Willow, together with many more newcomers. New Zealand and West Australian designers are also strongly represented this year.
The evolution of the festival continues with many new events added to the calendar in 2013, including a bridal inspired Red Carpet Runway and over 90 cultural listings.
The festival is expanding its reach, with billboards in Sydney and 60,000 programs printed to be distributed through Victoria, NSW and major centres. Their $3m+ advertising campaign includes a relationship with Channel 10s The Project and cements LMFFs position as a true national event, rather than just a Melbourne one.
From the opening night extravaganza, to the nightly runways, the independent and student events to the business seminars and beauty workshops – there is something for everyone at LMFF in 2013.
