And the wait is finally over. After months of speculation, excitement, countdowns and Miranda Kerr adverts, H&M’s first Australian store finally threw open its heritage-listed GPO doors for VIP guests on Thursday night, ahead of its official launch on Saturday.
The who’s who of the Australian fashion and media scene graced the red carpet, before heading inside to snap up the many long awaited bargains H&M has become a favourite for.
We weren’t disappointed. White, light and entirely overwhelming, the Swedish retail giant occupies all three floors of the iconic Melbourne building. Beautifully laid out, the clothing, accessories and homewares are a diverse mix of classic staples and bold statement pieces – and all at very friendly prices.
Embellishments, fringing, lady like skirt lengths and interesting prints demanded attention, as well as the high end exclusive to Australia collection that was filled with coveted and no doubt sell out items.

The Onya Mag team satisfied their high street hunger with a serious shop, while real hunger was sated with delicious cocktails from 1806, canapés by Melbourne chef Adam D’Sylva and DJ sets from the likes of Haim and Van She.
