Flocks of the fabulous, fashionable and ethically savvy will be making their way down to Federation Square this Friday to enjoy the Fair@Square Ethical Fashion Show as apart of Australia’s largest ethical and fair trade festival.
Back again for its fourth year, Melbourne’s fashionistas will look on in awe as recycled, locally made, sustainable and fair trade designs and accessories will be showcased ahead of the coming summer season.
Australia’s most talented ethical designers; JETS, Bachhara, Sosume, Pins by Lynda and many more will be featured on the catwalk alongside the latest designs and accessories by up and coming student fashion designers and RMIT textile students.
Hosting the event will be vintage fashion blogger Connie Cao from K is for Kani while sustainable fashion campaigner, Nerida Lennon will give insight into the changing trends and perceptions of ethical fashion across the globe.
Vintage and recycled fashion has made a lasting come back over the last couple of years. Now, Melbourne streets are full of quirky, eccentric looking young people, daring to move away from the big retail brands toward timeless, unique pieces that shed insight into their personality and creative style.
This trend comes as the globe becomes more conscious of their environmental footprint.
Sponsor Moral Fairground’s Director Susanna Bevilacqua said, “Our mission is to organise festivals and events that will educate, inspire and encourage people to make choices that will have a positive impact on the world, the environment and the people we share it with.”
While onlookers will get the latest on contemporary Australian eco-ethical fashion on Friday, the Fair Trade festival continues over the weekend with live music performances, ethical markets, demonstrations, forums, art exhibits and activities.
The Fair@Square fashion show celebrates ethical, sustainable and morally responsible behaviour, particularly with the coming Christmas shopping season.
