Brightly coloured socks designed by Australian artists are helping foot the bill of Australian charities, with the company that creates them donating a portion of its profits to the initiative or project nominated by its artist-of-the-month.
A Melbourne-based subscription sock business with a difference, Soxy Beast collaborates with a different Australian artist each month to create a bold, unique pair of socks.
Soxy Beast socks have been designed by a string of successful Australian artists, including art and textile artist Hayley Lauren, graphic designer Anna Hatzisavas, illustrator Hanna Mancini (Hannakin), graffiti legend Ashley Goudie (KIL Productions) and visual artist Lindsay Blamey who is recognised for his contemporary abstract and fine art photographic works.
Every month Soxy Beast subscribers receive a new pair of bold, comfortable socks designed and made in Melbourne using high-tech computer knitting. The socks are made from a comfy, stretchy cotton blend and fit men or women. Ten per cent of the price of each monthly design is donated to a cause chosen by the artist.
“Yes, our business is philanthropic in nature, and, yes, our socks are high quality, designed and manufactured in Australia,” Soxy Beast, founder Jeff De Maria says.
“But the real kicker for Soxy Beast is people love knowing their socks will arrive in their mailbox as a surprise parcel. It sure as hell beats bills and junk mail! Receiving a pair of funky socks in the mail brightens anyone’s day.”
Proceeds from December sock subscription sales will go towards the purchase of the $800 emergency medical kits used by staff of the Royal Flying Doctors Service (Victoria), which have been chosen by the artists, husband and wife team Luke and Kate Bordessa. The couple, who are based in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, create beautiful geometric and modern art designs through their business, Studio Cockatoo. Their bright and bold Soxy Beast December 2015 design has been influenced by their charity partner.
Popular Sydney vector artist and sign writer Matt Scott has designed the January 2016 Soxy Beast socks (New Year Edition) reflecting his unique style of stencils, precise in execution and rich in graphic texture. Matt’s Soxy Beast January design has been influenced by charity partner, Buy A Bale, who provide rural families and farmers with resources in tough times.
Subscriptions to Soxy Beast start at just $15 per month with free shipping. Subscription for three months ($60), six months ($105) and twelve months ($180) are also available – the longer you subscribe, the more you save.
