With the winter weather either sending us into hibernation or forcing us to cover up our stylish ensembles with our thickest coats, it’s now the season to let our accessories do the talking. For men, it’s time to work from the ground up.
The guys at Mavericks Laces believe that if shoes maketh the man, then the laces definitely maketh the shoe. No longer is the humble shoelace merely a necessity – it can now be a major accessory. Available in a range of lengths, colours and patterns, coloured laces are a stylish and subtle way to inject personality into any outfit, whether at work or at play.
Launched last year, Mavericks Laces is the brainchild of three graphic designers Luke Schoknecht, Jayden Zernich and Leigh Scholten. Seeing a gap in the market for men, particularly businessmen, to showcase their personality through their clothes, the boys came up with a solution in the form of the stylish laces.
Designed in Melbourne, the laces are 100% waxed cotton and come in two lengths, 75cm and 120cm. Available as single or in packs at a wide range of Melbourne stockists, the online store also ships worldwide.
The A/W 13 collection is bang on trend and offers a range of pastel and neutral colours, including our favourites mint green ‘Oscar’, caramel ‘Jordan’, purple ‘Charlie’ and racing green ‘George’. If you’re not feeling too daring just yet, the plainer ‘Iceman’ or ‘Leroy’ offer a more subtle style with the same great quality.
But it doesn’t end there.
Not only do Mavericks Laces offer the laces, they also have some great tips on how to wear them. A great resource on the website is the ‘style it your way’ section, which features a number of different ways to wear the laces complete with easy to follow diagrams. Apparently, there’s more than one way to tie your shoelaces – will it be the ‘bowtie’ or the ‘gap’ today?
While the laces are currently mainly marketed at men, there’s no reason why women can’t also join in on the fun. Lace into your boots, brogues or favourite pair of shoes and away you go.
Also keep an eye out for the Spring/Summer collection to be launched soon.
Footnotes – Onya Style Tips:
1. Make a statement with your laces – why not match them to some printed socks?
2. Pair them with shoes in a contrasting colour to really make the laces pop
3. Draw attention to your laces by experimenting with different ways of tying them – how about ‘The Commando’?
