Shopping and artistic institution the Sisters’ Market welcome hot, new artisans to their next high-end arts, crafts and fashion market, along with an increased number of regular stallholders to their next market to be held on July 11 – indoors – at the Brunswick Town Hall.
Local siblings, Marianna Gentilin and Roberta Parisi have helped launch the careers of countless local artisans, to the benefit of discerning Melbourne shoppers keen to snare original goods in a setting that would not be out of place in London, New York, or Paris.
This winter’s Sisters’ Market will feature up to 70 stalls, with items ranging from clothing, jewellery, small bags and clutches to artwork, stationery, books, food, coffee – and even dog and cat accessories.
Marianna and Roberta personally approve every artist, creator and innovator that exhibit at the market and say that next month’s market will be hot to trot.
Among those new to the market is Té Claire, a Melbourne-based artist who creates hand made ceramic pieces of art. Focusing on the materials and the manual labour, her work takes a nostalgic look at the natural world and everyday objects, reinvented by clay.
Also new is artisan Marina Nicolouleas from Marzrian. Marina’s unique jewellery is created from dead bees, gold and resin. Marina is passionate about bees and hopes to raise awareness of the epidemic that is wiping out bee colonies around the world. Marina combines her love for biodiversity and everyday life with her eye-catching designs.
Mornington Peninsula-based Soil and Sting who make lovingly crafted Kokedamas are another exciting newcomer to the Market. The Japanese-inspired string garden look great hanging in homes and are a fun way to bring the outdoors inside – founder Anna Bendell, has created a new “must-see” range especially for winter.
One of the markets most loyal and loved artisans is award-winning artist, illustrator and children’s author Elise Hurst. Elise has been involved with the Sisters’ Market since it first opened seven years ago and this winter will showcase a new range of illustrations along with copies of her latest book Imagine A City.
“We’re excited to welcome on-board hot new stallholders to the Sisters’ Market this winter and welcome back an increased number of regulars” Roberta says. “The winter market is one of the best-line-ups we have had since we started back in 2008. The shopping is going to be fantastic, mind-blowingly good – plus the food offering has gone up a notch, which is perfect for winter”.
Mouth-watering food vendors Bretzel Biz (giant pretzels sweet and savory), Smooth as Fruit (100% fruit sorbet), Stick on Grill, Okay Kaya, Sticky Balsamic and Beurre Cakes and Pastries will serve tasty morsels throughout the day while Café 2U prepare great coffee to go.
The Sisters’ Market will be held at the Brunswick Town Hall, 233 Sydney Road, Brunswick between 10am and 4pm. Entry is free.
