Sustainability is a term that tends to get carelessly thrown about by retailers looking to cater to the green tea drinking, mungbean eating enviro-warrior within all of us. This is great, however it’s not always clear how retailers are making use of our precious environment. Whilst we encourage the use of green bags and charity bottled water, Adelaide label Days of August is serving us the real deal when it comes to sustainable fashion.
Designer Marie-Pier Labelle creates unique jewelry using small offcuts of stainless steel from a local manufacturer. Each piece of steel is painstakingly laser cut to create the intricate end-product designs. As well as stainless steel, Marie-Pier uses ribbon and fabric offcuts to compliment and soften the industrial look. Stand out pieces include the three-dimensional look earrings and rings in designs ranging from bold shapes to cutesy cottages and birds.
The newest 3-piece collection ‘Nautical’ is exactly as it sounds. Blue and white nautical stripes are combined with glass beads to create a gorgeous tie up necklace, there’s a stainless steel anchor brooch as well as a tall ship brooch embellished with blue cotton for an ocean wave effect.
