New concept label Bay & Fyfe has teamed up again with Daimon Downey (ex-Sneaky Sound System) for its second collection of art-inspired luxe scarves. The first creative collaboration between the two produced a stunning series of edgy silk scarves, worn by the likes of Miranda Kerr, Dannii Minogue, and Nicole Kidman.
‘Off the Mantel’, this second uni-sex collection features a distinctive signature Downey print, available in three limited edition colours. The scarves are made from very finely woven wool and have a slouchy, comfortable feel to them, for everyday wear.
As is a trademark for this creative duo, the colours are off-beat, punchy and bold. The art featured on the scarves is from Downey’s ‘Mental Bridges’ series and has a stand-out sculptural motif that’s screen printed across the fabric to create bright, bold colour combinations when worn.
Says Downey of the second collection, “The art I’ve used is one of the sculptures from my ‘Mental Bridges’ mixed-media series. It’s a series that’s a visual version of how we build mental bridges – maps of ways to get over things.”
Since leaving Sneaky Sound System in 2009, Downey’s career in art is flourishing. His high profile clients include Miranda Darling and renowned architect Nick Tobias, along with fashion siblings Camilla and Marc Freeman. Westfield recently purchased a number of his works for their flag ship store in Pitt Street, Sydney and he held his first international exhibition in New York last year.
Bay & Fyfe is a new concept label based in Sydney, that launched at the beginning of 2012. They collaborate with artists to create pieces of art-inspired fashion that people will treasure. With Downey as the label’s foundation artist they are going from strength the strength. Soon they plan to bring a second artist into the fold and work with Downey to extend his art into more areas.
The ‘Off the Mantel’ collection is available online at www.bayandfyfe.com and in selected boutiques.
