Established 14 years ago with a vision to create wearable couture, Dizingof is an Australian name that has thrived in the Melbourne fashion scene. Inspired by a love of architecture and design, creator Haim Bzezinski produces carefully designed and constructed garments that are totally unique. Brittany Stewart sat down with the talented designer to pick his brain and learn more about the Dizingof label.
1. How would you describe the Dizingof brand in three words?
Unique, timeless, quality.
2. What defines the Dizingof Woman?
The Dizingof woman loves to stand apart from the crowd, she walks to the beat of her own drum and is driven and passionate about the mark she leaves on the world.
3. You have a background/love for architecture – how does this influence your designs?
While our pieces are cut structurally, they all have a very minimalist line, and when layered with garments create more shape and an eye-catching silhouette.
4. What’s the most important thing you think about when designing for the female body?
Understanding what’s important to women! Once women move away from trend pieces and fast fashion, they start to want pieces that they invest in that stand the test of time. When designing with this in mind, we have to consider elements such as the lengths of garments and ensuring our cuts are flattering on a women’s body (which we are especially known for).
5. What makes the experience of visiting a Dizingof store different?
We take great pride with having trained stylists in all of our stores – these women have an amazing eye allowing them to put women in the most amazing styles. We often hear our clientele say things like, “I love it and would never have grabbed that myself!” We’re also known for our excellent level of customer service, our stylists know the ins and outs of our client’s lives and remember what each person likes, making that person’s shopping experience effortless and enjoyable.
6. Which designers do you look up to?
We love designers that think outside the square such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier.
7. What can we expect from the upcoming season from Dizingof?
This season is particularly special, we are adding in some more contemporary styled pieces that have an eastern flavor, think kimono lines, high-waisted classic trousers, long vests, all in amazing prints that feel incredible to wear.
8. What’s your favourite piece from the current/upcoming collection that every woman should have?
The 1950s dream dress. Every women needs that very special dress in her wardrobe that lasts an entire lifetime. With its princess neckline and so many options with how to style the skirt, this dress can be worn by any age and being a wrap dress, it moves with what the body does.
9. You’ve been around for 14 years – how have your designs evolved or changed during that period?
We like to think the brand has retained a core signature style that focuses on the lines and structure of pieces. Over the years we have become more accessible in our designs, going from items that always needed quite a bit of styling to offering pieces that are statements in their own right, whilst still having the ability and option to layer.
10. What do the next 14 years hold for the brand?
We hear so many visiting people asking when are they going to get a Dizingof store in their city. We plan on expanding not only nationally but also internationally.
