Iconic Australian brand Rainbird has been given an exciting Melbourne twist, collaborating with local street artists Silk Roy and Kirrily Anderson to co-design a limited-edition collection.
The two talented artists have designed bespoke prints for the brand, which has called Melbourne home for more than 30 years.
The collection fuses functionality and fashion, taking lines from trending couture collections, while injecting quintessentially Australian touches. The new styles are designed to do more than look good, with industry-leading, element-resistant technologies including deceptively functional waterproof and breathable fabrics, fully sealed seams, storm flaps, stay dry hoods and fabrics that are beautifully soft to touch.
The collection has been designed for people with busy lifestyles, giving the convenience and comfort of transitional apparel without compromising on style, which is Rainbird’s speciality.
Rainbird Head of Products and Brands Catriona Dolphin, said the collaboration celebrates and pays homage to Rainbird’s proud Melbourne heritage.
“I’ve been with Rainbird for more than 11 years and in that time we’ve had offices in Carlton, Kensington and Collingwood – all hubs of creativity and street art,” she said.
“Rainbird has always evolved with its customers and this new range allows us to capture the environment, culture and lifestyle that Melburnians know and love. This collection is a true reflection of our authentic Melbourne roots and blurs the line between fashion, function and art.”
The new collection features three men’s and three women’s designs, all given the creative treatment by Roy and Anderson, and are perfect for the unpredictable Melbourne weather.
Artist Silk Roy said he jumped at the opportunity to work with Rainbird on the collection.
“I’ve always loved Rainbird’s clothing and have a few Anorak and Stowaway jackets at home, so the chance to design a new range fusing my own designs was really exciting,” he said.
“I’m a big fan of camouflage, and as Rainbird specialises in outdoor wear, I saw an opportunity to develop my own abstract patterns suitable for street wear.”
With very limited numbers of each design, the new Rainbird capsule collection is set to sell out fast. Prices range from $169.99 to $219.99.
