golden8 skincare is a new skin and body range that harnesses the power of nature to counteract the visible signs of ageing, treat skin conditions and improve the overall health of our skin.
Proudly Australian owned and made, golden8 skincare was born out of extensive research into the use of crocodile oil and its positive effects on the skin. Crocodile oil (often referred to as miracle oil) has been used for centuries around the world to treat skin conditions and speed up the wound healing process.
Let’s be honest, crocodiles aren’t known for their soft and silky skin, but this 200-million-year-old reptile holds the key ingredient for humans to glow all year round!
golden8 skincare Founder, Josephine Robson was inspired to produce an ethical, all natural beauty brand that included crocodile oil as a key ingredient after stumbling across the product while on holiday.
The oil included in the golden8 skincare range is ethically sourced from NT and Queensland crocodiles, which not only allows Ms Robson to create the innovative beauty product, but also supports local communities.
We spoke with Josephine Robson about launching a business from the ground up.
TELL US ABOUT golden8 skincare…
Golden8 skincare is a range of sensitive skin care products born out of a desire to find a natural alternative for a range of skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, acne, wound healing and wrinkles.
Our products contain Australian Farmed Crocodile Oil, an oil that has incredible healing powers and has been used for centuries to repair, renew and beautify the skin.
Crocodile Oil is full of Omegas, Vitamins and Essential Fatty Acids and has a similar composition to human skin oil making it suitable for all skin types, conditions and ages.
We’ve harnessed the potency of this extraordinary natural extract and combined it with 7 other high performing ingredients to produce our golden8 complex.
This unique complex is found in every golden8 product combined with other naturally healing ingredients.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START golden8 skincare?
I was brought up in a very health orientated family.
My father was a holistic dentist and instilled in me from an early age the importance of Omegas, Vitamins and Natural products and their relevance to our overall health.
I have carried this throughout my life and was always on the lookout for products that would benefit my family on the inside as well as out.
It was a family holiday to beautiful Far North Queensland that I came across Crocodile Oil and its incredible natural healing powers.
It claimed to be beneficial for eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne, dry skin, nail growth even mosquito bites and as my daughter suffered from eczema, I decided to give it a go.
The results were astounding not only for my daughters eczema, but as a skin softener and mosquito repellent for the rest of the family.
With these incredible results, I decided to research Crocodile Oil and was so impressed with the information I discovered, I decided to start a skincare range to aid sensitive skin.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAREER AND BACKGROUND.
I have always been interested in health and wellbeing, however my background is in the teaching sector. I started my career as drama teacher on Childrens Television, then as a Casting Director and Agent.
I’ve always found human nature fascinating and working in the Entertainment industry I interacted with a large diverse group of people in Australia and throughout the world.
Everyone has a story, and it taught me to listen, to learn and to embrace differences.
Ultimately, we all want the same thing, to be happy and healthy.
I’ve carried this simple message with me throughout life and now into my next career.
DESCRIBE A TYPICAL WORK DAY FOR YOU.
Most mornings my husband and I are up at around 6.30.
The very first thing I do is make my bed.
I know it sounds like such a simple thing to do but it really sets up my structure for the day.
I exercise each morning, whether it be going to the gym or a walk.
Even if it’s only half an hour, it clears my head and gives me time for my own thoughts.
Plus it gives me loads of energy for the day.
We live half the week in the country and half in the city, so every work day is different.
I’ll check my emails before 9 and write my to do list for the day.
I’m big on lists, I have great satisfaction ticking them off .
If I’m in the city, I will have organized meetings with suppliers, distributers, our creative director, our formulator, our warehouse guys.
I feel it’s really important as a new business to have face to face meetings and to keep everyone informed on what is happening and resolve any issues before they become a problem.
A lot of the people I am dealing with have been in the beauty industry a lot longer than me and their opinions need to be heard and respected.
I will personally drop in to our pharmacies and chat with the staff, checking in on our products, seeing what we can do better.
If I’m in the country, my day starts early with research and writing copy.
There is always something to learn, always a way to do things better, always interesting people to hear from.
It’s really important to move away from the computer throughout the day, so when I’m in the country I’ll take a break for an hour and work in my vegetable garden, I’m obsessed with growing things!
Because it is my own business, there is definitely no 9 to 5.
I normally work up until 9 pm, it is not a chore for me because I absolutely love what I do.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WANTING TO START A BUSINESS?

Don’t do it for the money, do it because you want to make a difference, do it because you love what you do.
Work hard and if you make a mistake learn from it. Make things happen.
Surround yourself with people who share your enthusiasm
Any success should be shared with those who helped you get there.
Research, listen and learn and always go with your gut instinct.
