Healthy lashes can make a world of difference to your appearance. When your lashes are strong and hydrated they can HELP eyes look fresh, radiant, and more youthful (yes, please!). Unfortunately, it’s also incredibly easy to neglect our lashes in our day-to-day beauty routines. We won’t forget to condition our head hair, but how often do we give our lashes the same kind of TLC?
When talking about lashes, it’s important to understand how the lash cycle works. Eyelashes go through three distinct phases in their growth cycle: Anagen (active growth), Catagen (transition), and Telogen (resting). Following the Telogen cycle the lashes fall out and the cycle begins again.
So, if you want to make your lashes pop all year round, here are some expert tips from Celebrity Brow Stylist & founder of Lux Brows & Lashes, Kim Evans.
In-Studio Lash Treatments
When it comes to lash treatments, Lash Lifts are at the top of the list for making lashes on-point. A Lash Lift is essentially a perm for the eyelashes, which curls at the base of your lashes and lifts the length and height of the lashes. It’s perfect for people who are time poor and don’t have time for extensions, but still want a fuller lash look or want to keep their natural lashes in peak condition.
A Lash Lift a three-step system, perm solution, setting solution and lastly a nourishing hydrating oil. Lashes are carefully and evenly placed on a silicon shield – there are different sizes and shapes to suit all eye shapes and different lashes – and held in place with a water soluble glue. The first two solutions are applied, left on for several minutes, the time is determined by your lash density, length and health. Generally, a lash tint or dye is applied to deepen your natural lash colour and then lastly the nourishing oil is applied to your lashes to ensure you leave with hydrated lush lashes.
At Lux Brows & Lashes, our Lash Lifts are all about longer, thicker lashes that still have a beautiful natural look to them. Our lash lift and tint offers greater curl and with a darker hue – perfect for achieving an effortless look without the need for lots of eye products!
A lash lift lasts approximately 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the duration of your lash cycle.
Lash Lift Before & After Care
The biggest mistake people make is using waterproof mascaras and cleansers as these strip your lashes of their natural health. In the 48 hours after getting a lash lift, avoid getting your lashes wet or wearing mascara. This time allows for your lashes to set. After 48 hours, you’re free to apply mascara and go about your business as usual. We do, however, recommend you invest in a quality hydrating and nourishing lash serum to give your lashes extra conditioning.
At-Home Treatments
Tending to your lashes at home is an absolute must if you’re wanting to keep your lashes strong, healthy and growing to their best potential.
As with any hair treatment, we recommend you always take care of your precious lash hairs. We strongly recommend you use a lash serum nightly, applied before bed onto clean dry lashes.
Look for a serum that contains no nasty ingredients – you want to be extra careful with what you put around your eye area – and also make sure it’s packed with hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid. You want those lashes to be able to soak in all the nourishment they can get!
We recently launched our KE Lash Serum that has a combination of performing triple peptides to revitalise, plump and strengthen lashes throughout each vital stage of your lash cycle. Biotin and Panthenol (B5) offer significant lush lash results and the inclusion of botanical extracts further boosts the health of your natural lashes by conditioning and protecting them from breakage and dryness.
Also make sure you change your mascara regularly, opt for one that contains a serum in it too so you can strengthen lashes day and night.
