How To Create A Halloween Look With What’s In Your Makeup Bag

In the lead-up to Halloween, we virtually caught up with SFX makeup artists, Alex Cox aka You Bloody Beauty to find out how we can create a Halloween look with the contents of our makeup bag – no fake blood required! As you’ll soon learn, these are unlike anything you’ve ever seen before – designed to help you conveniently organize all your essentials and protect them effectively.

Follow along at home to recreate Alex’s Halloween Clown look.

Step 1. Prime

To start off this look, I primed my base using the MAC Cosmetics Strobe cream. I applied a 10cent piece sized amount and massaged it into the entire base of my face.

Step 2. Brows

To fill in my eyebrows I use the Brow Contour Pro by Benefit and the Kryolan eyebrow gel. I kept them very natural-looking by applying the majority of the colour in the ends of my eyebrows and just brushing through the fronts with the Kryolan eyebrow gel.

Step 3. Foundation

For my foundation, I used the Estee Lauder double wear foundation. I mixed together two shades to match my skin tone perfectly and I applied it with a flat kabuki brush. To get maximum coverage I stippled it on instead of swiping it.

Step 4. Concealer

For concealer, I used the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD concealer. I applied this to my blemishes and the high points of my face. I blended this out with a fluffy eyeshadow brush.

Step 5. Eyeshadow

For the eyes, I used the Jeffree Star JawBreaker Palette. You can use any colour combination you want but I went with pink and yellow. I started by packing on a light pink in my crease and then I blended it out onto the high points of my cheeks and all the way out to my hairline. I then used my fingers to swipe on a deeper pink shimmery shadow on the outer corners of my eyes. After blending those two colours together I grabbed a flat eyeshadow brush and applied a yellow eyeshadow from the inner corner of my eyes to drag it across to blend in with the pink. To make the yellow stand out more, I swiped on a gold shimmer on top of the yellow eyeshadow.

Step 6. Contour

To contour my face I used Ben Nye’s Lumiere Brilliant Colour Palette. Using a large fluffy brush I applied a shimmery pink shade to the apples of my cheeks and blended it up and around to meet with the outer corners of my eyes. I also applied the same shade on the tip of my nose.

Step 7. Highlight

To highlight the high points of my face I used a shimmery gold eyeshadow that I used on the inner corners of my eyes and the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Tulip Twin.

Step 8. Lips

For the lipstick, I just used the same pink eyeshadow I used on my eyes and mixed a small amount in with some vaseline to create my own custom lip balm.

Step 9. Final touches

To finish off this cute little clown look I used the NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk to create the decorative lines. I popped on my biggest pair of false lashes and used a shimmery setting spray over the top.

To make this more spooky, I added in some coloured contacts like blue eye contacts and smudged my lippy around my mouth!
