Walking into Richmond Skin & Laser, I was a little nervous.
I’d booked in for the Picosure treatment – a skin rejuvenating laser treatment, used for everything from tattoo removal (the results are incredible) to reducing the signs of ageing (also very impressive results).
While my skin is mostly good, the reality is I’m 33, and it’s slowly starting to show – fine lines, sometimes lacklustre skin and the odd spot of pigmentation (thanks, pregnancy).
I felt like I needed a skin pick me up, and yes, facials are nice, but I needed something that went deep.
I opened the door of the Church Street clinic and met Karen, who put me at ease instantly. We went through my skin condition, concerns, even my background and heritage, and how the entire process would work.
The consultation was thorough, private and reassuring – not just about the procedure, but also post-treatment care (stay out of the sun, and always cover your skin with SPF).
The procedure was quick and mostly pain free. It begins with a deep cleanse and covering your eyes with goggle like protectors. It doesn’t hurt – slight prickling is the sensation – but it’s very mild. Once we were finished, my skin felt warm and I was honestly expecting to resemble a beet – but I didn’t. The whole procedure was non-invasive and I resumed life as normal immediately afterwards. A couple of days later, my forehead was a little flaky, but this was expected and explained to me by Karen (I err on the side of dry skin anyway, so I wasn’t awfully surprised).
My skin felt tighter and plumper instantly, but I really noticed the benefits at around the 4-6 weel mark. My skin had a real glow to it, and it was incredibly healthy, clear and hydrated. I was super vigilant with sunscreen (and wearing hats) as I didn’t want to risk any hyper-pigmentation.
While multiple treatments are recommended (and I can see why a course of treatments would deliver even more exceptional results) I was very happy with mine – it improved my skin tone immensely.
The reality is that at a certain point creams, serums and lotions just don’t go deep enough to create any dramatic, noticeable change (and certainly not as quickly) – if you’re at this point, then I couldn’t recommend PicoSure more.
It’s safe, quick, non-invasive and delivers results that aren’t just on the surface – boosting collagen production from the inside out.
