Camel milk is the world’s oldest superfood, and an Australian company is pioneering its use in a new range of premium skincare. Six products have been launched in the new CameLife skincare range, which uses milk sourced from sustainable camel farms in Israel as well as Australia – with hopes to grow the industry here.
The introductory skincare products include a gentle cleansing bar, a rich body cream, soothing eye cream, face serum and night cream. Each product contains a blend of camel milk and other natural ingredients including Avocado and Sweet Almond oils, to nourish the skin.
“The key benefit of camel milk is that it is absorbed quickly through your skin, leaving little residue, ensuring that the natural Vitamin C, fatty acids and protective proteins in the milk go where they are most needed; deep into your skin. The revitalising effect is almost instantaneous,” says CameLife co-founder, Dr Jane Rose.
A key attribute of camel milk is its bio-availability i.e. its ability to penetrate the top layer of the skin or epidermis. Key properties include its low-fat content which promotes absorption, high levels of Essential Fatty Acids and Vitamin C, and antibodies that appear to remain active in the creams. Camel milk also has a natural antimicrobial effect, acting as an antiseptic and helping to prevent skin infections.
“The high content of unsaturated Omega fatty acids reduces inflammation and stimulates skin repair, whilst Vitamin C aids collagen synthesis and acts an anti-oxidant to remove free radicals built up due to environmental aggressors. The milk’s natural Lactoferrin has anti-inflammatory properties, and the antibodies in camel milk are one tenth of the size of those in human milk, which can make them more easily absorbed into the skin,” says Dr Jane Rose.
Developed by The Australian Camel Milk Company, the makers of CameLife are hopeful of eventually sourcing all of their camel milk from Australia, which has the largest wild population of dromedary camels in the world.
I recently trialled the CameLife soothing anti-aging eye cream that brightens, tones and moisturises the delicate skin around the eye. And it really works. It has smoothed my fine lines, reduces puffiness and dark circles and enhances skin vitality.
Harnessing camel milk’s rich Vitamin C, Iron and Omega fatty acids, the gentle eye cream also includes nourishing oils.
Free from parabens, paraffins, phythalates, synthetic fragrances or micro-beads, all the CameLife’s products use mainly natural ingredients. However, as all products are bio-active, a minimal amount of synthetic preservatives is used to ensure the continued safe, bio-active effect of camel milk throughout the life of the products.
