Okay Australiana lovers. After a cosmetics range that is absolutely created by and made in this fair country? Looking for a product that, when you wear it, you are actually, technically, the Face of Australia? And all of this is without having to wear a sash and a bikini and parade down a makeshift runway.
Face of Australia has been producing cosmetics since 1997 and has built up a decent, cost effective range. I’m going to run through some of their basics – skin, lips and eyes – that largely deliver on the promise of affordable beauty.
Tinted Moisturiser; I’ve long been a tinted moisturiser fan. It’s the perfect marriage of hydration and coverage and you can achieve an even skin tone without slathering on foundation (a product I’m not a massive fan of and avoid wearing, call me crazy). FoA’s tinted moisturiser is ever so light, a little pink and smells good. It’s by no means a thick coverage, so don’t use it expecting to look like Kim Kardashian – but it is a nice option for light day-wear make up with the added bonus of SPF 30+. And we all know that’s the biggest beauty secret of them all.
Primer; the idea of a primer, for those not in the primer know, is to provide a base for make up. You don’t really want to be in the business of layering product upon product on your skin and clogging those precious pores, so don’t feel it’s vital you wear a primer. But, should your skin need a little extra hydration, some assistance in the brightening and tightening stakes, or if you’re sick of your base disappearing after a couple of hours, then by all means, invest. FoA’s Primer is incredibly light and promises to freshen and brighten skin for make up application. My skin certainly felt smoother and looked more even. If you really like the natural look then don’t worry about actually using a foundation, just go with the Primer.
Mineral Therapy Foundation; can I just get something off my chest before we talk mineral foundation … if you’re going to use a powder foundation, invest in a kabuki brush. Often the brushes you’ll get with powders just won’t cut it and you won’t get the coverage needed. A good kabuki brush will make the most out of your powder. Now, FoA’s mineral foundation is nice, but very sheer. If you’re someone who needs serious foundation, then it might be too light for you. I like it, but I’m a sheer person. We’re a special breed. But I must insist on that kabuki brush, the brush that comes with this one doesn’t quite cut the mustard.
Massage Therapy Lip Shine; a super thick gloss that steers clear of plastic looking lips and instead gives a fuller, subtly shining mouth.
Impact-full Volumising Mascara; good, but not amazing. It does lengthen, but the brush is strange and it tends towards mini-clumps. I’d suggest getting the brush right at the roots of the lashes and wriggling it a little as you apply, to get any form of volume.
