As Beauty Editor of Onya Magazine, I receive many emails on the latest and greatest, sometimes more weird than wonderful, beauty products and treatments. One of the most exciting parts of my job is to trial the latest theories and technologies in beauty treatments, so of course I was immediately intrigued when I began to read about LA SlimWrap.
Already causing a stir in the US between celebrities (Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner is a convert) and on-trend beauty fans, LA Slim Wrap has now arrived in Australia, thanks to savvy Melbourne based beauty therapist Katrina Lukey. Obviously having a passion for beauty and a keen entrepreneurial eye, Katrina saw the treatment being preformed on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and seeing an opportunity within the Australian market, was on a plane within the week to meet with Hollywood’s ‘Body Wrap Expert’ and founder, Afsi Naim.
Katrina’s salon, Skinovations in Beaumaris, exclusively offers the treatment in Australia, but is also hoping to expand LA SlimWrap to other locations in Australia.
Definitely curious but slightly nervous about my introduction to LA SlimWrap, I arrived at Skinovations with an open mind. Hey, if I could loose the promised inches within an hour, why not? Katrina immediately made the whole experience enjoyable with her informative and friendly explanation of what was to happen. First, Katrina takes 15 minutes to accurately and thoroughly measure key areas of the body, marking with a pen and also writing them down so you can compare with your measurements post-treatment. Afterwards, the wrapping process begins; standing in underwear I was instructed into position while Katrina expertly wrapped stretch bandages that had previously been soaked in the warm LA SlimWrap detoxifying solution. This was taking the Herve bandage dress trend to a whole other level. I won’t lie, these bandages go on tight, and I began to understand what our corset wearing ancestors had to deal with for nine hours a day. Respect! But as they say, no pain no gain and I sucked it up, literally, and got to the light exercise stage.
Wrapped up like an Egyptian mummy, I stiffly made my way to the trampoline where I lightly bounced while sipping on water and watching Keeping Up With The Kardshians; the ultimate guilty pleasure. Not a bad way to spend 45 minutes combating cellulite.
LA SlimWrap works by detoxifying the body through the absorption of the vitamin and mineral solution contained in the bandages, which compress the skin to aid in the process. Once toxins start making their way out of the body, the space left between the fat cells is compressed by the wrapping, which has been expertly designed to enhance body shape. Skin is nourished and moisturised from the outside, while the light exercise increases circulation, helping to flush out toxins and with it, centimetres.
When the final results were in, I was shocked. A natural skeptic, I was surprised to see that I had lost a total of 27.5 centimetres, with the biggest loss being around my hips and tummy. However, being a bottom-heavy ‘pear’ girl, I was most thrilled with my new, non-dimpled derrière – something I thought I would only see again if I time travelled back to 2005. In fact, I was so obsessed with my new smooth thighs that even my partner got sick of me randomly flashing my skirt saying, “look!”
Of course, healthy diet, exercise and plenty of water to continue flushing out toxins is the best way to prolong results of your wrap, but for anyone looking for a confidence boost or to tackle a problem area before a special event; your arms before donning that strapless wedding dress, skipping the Spanx in your Herve dress, or tightening your thighs to be bikini body ready on your mid-winter break, LA SlimWrap is a positive head start.
Treatments are approximately $200 dollars and can be arranged through contacting Katrina at Skinovations.
