If you’ve decided that 2015 is the year you revamp your look, look no further than Love Those Lashes lash extensions— the new arch nemesis of the humble old mascara.
You know it’s true. Nothing draws attention to a pretty face like a well-defined, standout pair of eyes. For many of us, this is where mascara comes in, but as Debra Sloane—founder and owner of Love Those Lashes— suggests, we should all be considering lash extensions instead.
Not so easily convinced? I wasn’t either—which is why I was more than eager to quiz Debra and find out just how Love Those Lashes lash extensions work, and why they’re trumping the humble mascara.
Could you tell us how Love Those Lashes lash extensions work? How are they applied?
Standard lashes or a full set of lashes is created by applying a single lash to a natural lash. The stylist or eyelash technician will separate the lashes with tweezers to find a single lash to have a lash extension applied. Once selected a lash extension is picked up with tweezers and dipped into glue. The small blob of glue is spread along the natural lash by wiping it along the natural lash and then dropped into place. This is a delicate process and the stylist must work quickly before the glue begins to dry. The lash must align perfectly with the natural lash and should be glued along the entire natural lash.
What’s the difference between a ‘stylist’ and an ‘eyelash technician’?
The difference between a technician and stylist is that a technician is trained in eyelash extensions and has less than two years’ experience. A stylist has been trained in extension, design and volume lashes. A stylist has over two years’ experience and can confidently use all types of lashes, mink, human hair, silk and acrylic. How are lash extensions different to false eyelashes?
The difference between false lashes and lash extensions is that false lashes are glued to your eyelid and last about 8 hours. Lash extensions are glued to your natural lashes and last up to 6 weeks. Swimming is not possible with false lashes.
How long will a set last? Will they need to be touched up?
When lashes are applied in the correct manner they will last a very long time. However, refills or infills is required every two to three weeks as natural lashes will fall out, taking the lash extension with them. It is important to apply lashes to mid growth cycle lashes, that is, lashes that are in the middle of their natural growth cycle. A lash lasts about 6 to 8 weeks from beginning to falling out. Therefore, if a full set of standard lashes is applied correctly they should last for 3 to 4 weeks given that some natural lashes will fall out in this time and hence a refill or infill is required.
Mascara is so quick and easy to use- why should Onya readers be having lash extensions instead?
Lash extensions have revolutionised women’s maintenance and enhanced their eyes like no other makeup discovery in this century. A woman saves time in the morning as no mascara is required just a simple brush once per day. They are waterproof therefore, no panda eyes after swimming or exercising. However, they must be kept dry for the first 8 hours after application to allow the glue to graft.
Can mascara and other eye makeup be safely applied while wearing lash extensions?
All eye makeup can be applied as usual.
Do lash extensions require maintenance? How should they be maintained?
Maintenance of lash extensions is brushing once per day, and cleaning using an oil free makeup remover. Love Those Lashes does recommend using an endurance coating to make the lashes last longer.
What about potential problems or side effects? Are Love Those Lashes lash extensions suitable for those wearing contacts or glasses?
Love Those Lashes has an exceptionally high level of quality control, and I personally try and test all techniques. The staff are assessed by their performance and quality of work is checked. I ensure all sanitisation procedures are adhered to and that no step is overlooked. The quality of lashes is the highest grade possible. Love Those Lashes has developed our own glue to ensure that lashes last longer when applied. The glue has longevity of up to 5 weeks and with reduced reaction for sensitive eyes.
Lash extensions are perfect for women with vision problems and wear glasses or contact lenses, there is no mascara required so there is no chance of it getting into their eyes.
How are lash extensions removed?
If a client wishes to have them removed it is a simple 20 minute procedure of applying a glue remover to the lashes which dissolves the glue and makes removal easy. There is never any damage to the natural lashes if applied and removed by an experience lash technician or stylist.
What prices can Onya readers expect to be looking at for Love Those Lashes lash extensions?
The newest form of lashes in the industry is volume lashes—created when a stylist groups 4 to 6 extremely fine lashes together by fanning them and shaping them before applying them to a single lash. The process will take up to 2 hours for a full set but the look is like nothing else. They are full and fluffy. These volume lashes will cost readers $300 for a full set normally $330 but refills or infills are only required once per month as they last much longer due to the wait. Standard full set of lashes start at $215 include a cleanser and sanitiser, half sets are also available.
So ladies, perhaps it’s time to invest in some lash extensions to upgrade your look for 2015. Your old mascara wand might hate you for it, but maybe that’s okay.
