In the jaded world of fashion, it’s rare for a hair stylist to capture the imagination of the media, yet Tara Fleming’s styling at the recent (Project Runway Australia alumni) Mutcho Suba LMFF show at Melbourne’s temple of high fashion Gusto & Elan was described as “a work of art” by all thanks to her creativity and the new VS Sassoon Goddess Waves styler.
“This look is young Hollywood, red carpet ready. I’ve used the waves to add texture to the bun, which is a clever way to add volume to fine hair,” says Fleming.
“Crimping was big in the 80s, adding volume, texture and drama. The Goddess Waves allows you to recreate this feel but in a more wearable, fresh and prettier way that’s very current and high fashion.”
Indeed, Goddess Waves have definitely made their mark on the 2013 world fashion stage with designers like Badgley Mischka, Thakoon, Chris Benz, Zac Posen and Betsey Johnson all using a variation of the wave in their Spring 2013 shows.
Here are Tara’s tips for recreating the Goddess Waves Braid and Side Bun look at home:
How to:
- Wash and towel dry your hair.
- Blow dry hair, stretching out the hair so it’s smooth enough to show off the waves.
- Make a small braid behind the fringe line from the roots down to you ear. Plait the rest of the braid away from you head.
- Bring hair together in a side ponytail and then use the Goddess Wave styler to create a rippled effect.
- Use a wide tooth-comb through your ponytail to separate waves and create added texture.
- Beginning from the ends of the ponytail, roll hair underneath and up towards the base of the ponytail to create an elongated side bun. Secure hair with bobby pins.
Expert Tip: Add hair spray to secure look for a clean formal style, or gently rub hair to deconstruct the look for a messy modern feel.
