The Designer Style Studio, held at Melbourne’s GPO and sponsored by Harper’s Bazaar, left me not only lusting after the beautiful fashion (the cream lace Fleur Wood dress if you’re wondering, and yes, delivery to my home address is fine) but also the awe-inspiring hairdo’s on display.
The structured updo’s with tonnes of volume harked back to the glamorous days of the 1950’s and 60’s, tying in with the spring/summer beauty trend of a ladylike, polished look. They weren’t stuck in the past however, with the delicately out-of-of-place finish giving the do’s a modern edge.
These looks are fantastic when paired with a simple hair accessory such as the classic black headband, and also suit a more extravagant spring racing headwear.
While some of the styles reached heights possibly unachievable without a little helping prop, the key to recreating these looks is mousse, backcombing, teasing and a tonne of hairspray.
The best way to replicate these looks to suit your own level of skill and most importantly personal style is to experiment – blow-dry, tease, twist and pin into a variety of shapes, then smooth down the other layer, leaving wisps of hair free for a modern take on the polished and classic updo’s of yesteryear.
