‘What’s this?’ you ask. ‘Another beauty product I just need to have, lest I suffer an unfortunate fate of limp locks and undo all the good work everything else I’ve bought has done? Really? Another product?’
With new ‘wonder prods’ being launched every other day, it’s easy to become not only exhausted but skeptical of the many things us women are told that we need, if we’re to have ‘this’, look like ‘that’, or eliminate ‘them’. Trust me, as Beauty Editor I receive mountains of emails each week announcing the latest and greatest, and it’s enough to make your head swirl.
After telling a few friends about clarifying shampoos, I was met with scoffs; ‘What do you mean a shampoo that cleans better than other shampoos? What a load of!’ they exclaimed.
While clarifying shampoos are not exactly new on the beauty scene, the recent interest in ‘detoxing’ yourself has also spread to your roots – hair, that is. Used every few weeks, or when you feel that your hair isn’t responding to heat treatment or product like it normally does, a clarifying shampoo can really make a difference in giving your hair a ‘fresh start’.
Onya’s resident hair guru who we introduced last month, Freda Rossidis from Cast Salons explains, “36% of women and 18% of men suffer from an oily scalp, by not treating this condition your scalp will feel sluggish and your hair flat. It is important for these clients to use a clarifying shampoo to maintain a healthy scalp and hair. Clarifying shampoo leaves your scalp and hair feeling refreshed and light.”
“Clarifying shampoo is also great for removing build up of product in the hair that can cause a barrier preventing perfect colour results and can also make the hair look dull and difficult to comb through,” said Freda.
With additives like silicone being common in many shampoos, and chemicals like chlorine present in our lifestyle, it doesn’t seem so far fetched to use an extra shampoo step to remove build up in our hair.
After using De Lorenzo’s cruelty free, Australian made and owned Absolute Deep Clean ($25.95) every few weeks, I can definitely tell the difference; my hair is shiny, with extra volume and just feels so clean. I actually can’t stop running my hands through my hair, and I’m thrilled that I actually can – considering my hair was so hard to lift off my scalp prior to using Deep Clean.
The shampoo, with organic rosehip oil and oat peptides, smells so good (cherry blossom!) you’ll love your once-a-month shower date with it, and so will your fresh, bouncy locks.
