Beauty and health
Out with the tampons, in with the cups!
Menstrual cups will become mainstream and our landfills will love us for it.
Menstrual cups have been on the rise for a few years now. Environmentally conscious and convenient, there is a good reason this trend is growing. According to Lunette, 2019 is going to be the year of the cup – with more and more women choosing to make the switch. The ladies behind Lunette tell us that there are many reasons to choose a menstrual cup over a tampon. Better for your body, better for your wallet and better for the environment, this is a trend that is here to stay! Imagine never having to buy pads or tampons again … ah, the freedom.
Menstrual cups are the new mainstream.
Plant powered products
While plant based lifestyles have been around for a while 2019 will see a rise in more men and women implementing plant based products into their daily regime according to the skincare queens Cedar + Stone. Moisturisers, face cleansers and facial scrubs made from fruit and green plants will be cleaning out the shelves. Why? Ditching harsh chemicals, and swapping them for non-invasive, soft and gentle skin products will take the industry in 2019 by storm.
The eyebrows have it
Eyebrow expert and celebrity brow artist Sharon Lee has a major 2019 prediction: bleaching. That’s right – eyebrow bleaching is back! Sharon tells us that bleaching your eyebrows a shade or two lighter helps make the eyes the focal point of the face. She also thinks we’ll see more men exploring brow manscaping. These are trends sure to raise an eyebrow (pun intended!).
Beards for the win
Beards are definitely making a comeback this year. Men will be walking around with lovely trimmed, neat facial hair or big bushy Viking beards. There will be no avoiding it. However, there are men out there who struggle to grow facial hair. They may have none at all or it might grow through in patches. There is a great new product on the market for this, derma rollers.
The question is, do derma rollers work for beard growth? The way they work is the same as micro-needling where the skin is damaged to allow for fresh collagen production. Microneedling also stimulates factors needed for hair growth. So beard rolling could be the thing that is causing all these wonderful beards to pop up.
Non-surgical procedures
Plastic surgery is invasive, expensive and not an option for everyone. That’s why Dr Dr Jack Zoumaras, the Secretary of Australian Society Plastic Surgeons NSW and Founder of Artiste Plastic Surgery and Artiste Medispa, predicts that non-surgical methods will grow in popularity in 2019. The use of injectables, stem cell experimentation as well as cooling and heating procedures will be the next biggest trends on the market.
2019 looks like a big year! From decluttering to eyebrow bleaching and everything in between, be sure to stay ahead of the game with these top trends. Make a resolution to try at least one thing on this list – be bold and embrace the new. 2019 has big things in store!
Fitness
Work it, baby!
2019 will bring with it more thoughtful exercise. Our bodies are delicate and complicated – we need to look after them with care. Model, personal trainer and owner of fitness wear range Pack Loves Luna, Lauren Vickers, has some predictions for the coming year. Lauren says that a move toward connection and community will be a trend in the fitness world this year (think less smart watches and more group classes!). She also predicts that sleep will be a big focus for wellness in 2019 – with burnout becoming an increasing issue, Lauren suggests that ‘quality over quantity’ is the motto of the year. She also hints that we should look out for wet look styling, glitter and geometric prints in our active wear.
The great outdoors
Gone are the days of sweating it out in a stuffy gym and keeping up in a HIIT class. A renewed connection with our environment means more exercise in the outdoors, surrounded by nature! Tara Lock, founder of the unique instant cooling Chilly Towel says, ‘Give fresh air and Vitamin D a warm welcome. Exercising outdoors means you’ll be exposed to the elements, so make sure you are protected from the sun and keep your body temperature regulated and cool while you work up a sweat!’

Green Travel
Travel
More and more of us are getting behind the sustainable lifestyle bandwagon and what better way to incorporate this into your life than with travel. Travel with Jane believe there are so many eco friendly ways to enjoy your holidays now such as taking bikes instead of taxis. What better way to get some fresh air and enjoy the scenery than by exercising and site seeing. In 2019 we will see more and more travellers supporting local farmers, and avoid using waste materials while incorporating a “living a less is more” kind of lifestyle on holidays.
Solo Travel
Believe it or not solo travel is becoming the hot new thing. I mean, who wouldn’t want to travel the world and meet new people right? 2019 is all about women feeling brave and empowered.
While some think it is unsafe to fly abroad solo. In reality, solo travel can be perfectly safe regardless of your gender and is likely safer now in 2019 than ever before according to travel insurance experts Travel with Jane. The fact is, most who set out on a trip alone don’t stay alone for long. It’s extremely easy to meet fellow solo travellers on trips, many of which will have the same concerns that you may have.
Lifestyle
Decluttering with purpose
We have all jumped on the decluttering band wagon at some point in our lives, especially when spring rolls around each year, but what is decluttering with purpose. In 2019 decluttering specialist Jo Carmichael from All Sorted Out believes we will see more and more people start implementing “ decluttering with purpose’ into their lives.
Decluttering with purpose is more than just cleaning your house once every few months it’s a whole new lifestyle, it’s a new way of living and it’s not just with the home.
Decluttering your relationships, your hobbies and interests, even assessing your work. In 2019 you will see many people accessing these aspects of their lives. Decluttering with purpose helps us focus our minds on what is important and what isn’t. 2019 will bring many of us throwing more than just an old sweater out.
Postpartum parties will be on the rise
While baby showers have been all the rage since before time, it’s time to say goodbye and hello to postpartum parties in 2019. While baby showers are there to give gifts, Adexa’s Treasure believes postpartum parties will become more popular. Being a new mum can come with depression, stress, sleepless nights and no time for yourself – it’s a beautiful new world for a mum, but equally as challenging.
Postpartum parties are a great way to pamper the isolated and sleep-deprived mum, and celebrate her health and her new baby – showering her with gifts she actually needs. This is a fabulous way to boost her mood after such a physically and emotionally demanding time. Let’s celebrate these new mums in style, in 2019.
