Getting ready to take your family to the beach? You want to be sure you have everything you need before you leave the house. If you haven’t been to the beach before or if it’s been a while, you may not have everything on hand. Here’s a great checklist that will help you put together everything you need to enjoy your family’s next beach trip
Sunscreen
One of the first things you want to be sure you buy is sunscreen. If you have an older bottle on hand, it may be time to replace it. Also make sure you have a high SPF. You should use a minimum of SPF 30, but most doctors recommend aiming for around SPF 50 or more. If you have an infant, you may need to look for sunscreen that is specially formulated for little ones. There’s also sunscreen for those with sensitive skin, so you may want to try that if you often get a rash from using sunscreen.
Chairs
While you may be taking a blanket or towels for the kids to sit on, the adults might want to take beach chairs. There are plenty of options out there. Many have adjustable backs so you can lean back to relax or sit up while you read or eat. Some also have extras like built-in cupholders, pockets for your cell phone, or even a little table that attaches to the side. Some also have shades that can be attached to the back to help you stay out of the heat.
A Cooler
You can’t go to the beach without taking water and some other snacks. In fact, if your beach has public barbeques, you may even want to take along everything you need to make lunch for your family. You need a cooler that can handle all of that plus some ice to keep it all cold. A cooler with wheels and a handle to pull it with can be very helpful. You might also want to look for a cooler with a built-in bottle opener if you often drink beverages that require one.
A Beach Cart
If you have to park far away from the beach or if you’re walking to the beach, investing in a beach cart can be very helpful. These Rio beach carts are designed to be pushed through the sand, and they have plenty of space to haul a lot of your blankets, towels, and other items. The only thing you may not be able to fit on your cart is your cooler.
An Umbrella
You don’t want to get sunburnt, nor do you want to get overheated. Unfortunately, though, few beaches have a lot of shade, so you need to bring your own. There are a lot of great beach umbrella options out there. Be sure you get one that has an anchor or purchase an anchor separately. These devices make it easier to plant your umbrella in the sand and help it remain upright during the day.
Sports Equipment, Beach Balls, and Other Fun Things
Finally, don’t forget the various things you’ll want to take along to play with. If your family loves volleyball, you may want to set up a net and hold a friendly competition. Beach balls and sand castle molds can be fun for your kids to play with. Don’t forget the camera, either—you’ll want to capture all of the memories your family makes on these beach trips.
