It may be the best means of broadening the mind, but that is not to say that travel is entirely without its upsets. In fact, any trip that you might take is liable to have its ups and downs, and in many ways that is just part and parcel of the experience. Of course, by the same token that you want to keep the positives going strong, you also want to try and do away with the negatives, so that is worth looking into too. There are many little annoyances which can crop up during any travel experience, and it’s great to know what you can do about them. Some of those that follow might be such that you have experienced yourself at some point; others might be lying in wait.
Delays
On the face of it, it might seem as though there is nothing you can do about travel delays. If a plane, train or tram is late, it’s late, and that’s that. But in practice, there is plenty that you can do to manage the situation better, and it begins by looking at how you approach it psychologically. If you generally get very upset and impatient, it’s unlikely that this is helping anybody. If instead, you can learn to be okay with having to wait a little while, then you will find that it is a much more pleasant experience – and, ironically, the time will pass much faster. Delays may cause trouble further down the line, but for now all you need to do is wait it out – and worry about the technicalities of the problem later.
Insects
Depending on where in the world you are travelling, you are going to have to think about various insects and what to do to protect against them. In one sense, it’s just important to remember that there is always going to be a wasp at the picnic, in this case, perhaps even a literal one. But this is more than just an annoyance in many parts of the world; you often need to make sure that you are properly protecting yourself from mosquitoes and the like. You should always use mosquito bite cream after the fact to help treat and heal the bite, and you should aim to cover up and deter them in the first place from biting you too. That will help to keep your health intact, but it will also mean that you will have a much more enjoyable time away.
Arguments
It’s hard to get away from arguments entirely when you’re travelling: even when you’re going solo, you are bound, at some point, to argue with either a hotel receptionist, or yourself. The stress of travel means that nobody is going to exactly be on their best behaviour at all times, and that’s just something you need to accept and try to work with. If you can adopt this enlightened approach, you should find that you can keep the arguments at bay for the most part, and resolve them faster when they do occur.
