Floating board, self-balancing electric skateboard or hoverboard?
The first thing we have to clarify is that Hoverboards do not float at all. I’m not sure why people started calling them Hoverboards. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that 2015 was when we celebrated the year depicted in the famous sci-fi movie Back to the Future II. The film received a lot of coverage in the media, especially regarding what aspects of life in 2015 the film predicted well. One of the most famous parts of the movie was the antigravity skateboards known as hoverboards. These had long captured people’s imaginations and it seemed the time had come to associate that name with what we now know as the floating board.
So what exactly is a hoverboard? It is a unique type of personal mobility device. Specifically, it is a self-balancing electric scooter. If you have ever seen a Segway you will immediately have an idea of what I am describing. Although the board is certainly inspired by personal mobility devices like the Segway, it does not descend from the Segway directly in a technological sense. Obviously, much of the technology is related, but they are not exactly the same type of product.
More than one danger
There are many overnight fads, but since darts on the lawn were banned, a product has so much potential for injury and property damage. The main problem is that the hoverboard models that started the craze were very well built, but they were also very expensive.
The Chinese manufacturing industry quickly sprang into action with a series of cheap and unsafe knockoffs that were almost completely identical on the outside.
