The Best Glasses To Wear For A Formal Event

Who doesn’t love getting dressed up for a swanky event? You may get your nails done, a new perfume, some dangly jewelry, and of course we cannot forget the stunning dress or suit. However, for those of us who love to add a pair of lenses to our style, it can be a struggle in making sure our look ties in with our glasses, which might differ than the glasses for daytime

Which is why we have written this guide! To provide you with drop-dead looks that are only complimented by some half rim glasses or cat-eye shades. All you need is a bit of brainstorming to take a simple pair and turn you into the most stylish walker on the red carpet.

Consider each type of glasses style and we will give some accompanying style notes that will help make sure you are always bringing your best foot forward.

Half Rim Glasses

For men, this is a super elevated look and frankly can take even the most casual outfits and make them look elevated. For women, as is with most things, this is a bit more tricky. Half rim glasses will be perfect for a winter formal event with a clean cut coat or sophisticated pantsuit. It is that masculine look that so many celebs, like Blake Lively and Dakota Johnson, are loving right now!

Cateyes

If you are going classic chic, these glasses are a must and something you should totally include – even if your eyesight is perfect! Cateye frames are perfect for an Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe look. With simple but tailored cuts that compliment the body, these glasses will bring you back to reminisce of a more tasteful time in fashion.

If you aren’t sure if Cateye glasses are for you, simply pair them with a black dress and red lip. It will go with anything and everything, as well as flatter any figure. This style is also classy enough that you can rock it at a wedding or an art gala, allowing you to look super stylish without having to put that much effort (or money) in.

Bold Heavy Frames

You may not realize it but bold heavy frames are more perfect for formal events than anything! There are so many ways to play with this look. Maybe you need bold frames to keep up with your bold outfit, only emphasizing you did not come to this event to play! Or maybe your bold heavy glasses are more of a statement piece while the rest of your outfit is more understated. Either way, Ru Paul does it best.

Feminine & Subtle

If you just want to be able to see at the event and not looking for anything too fussy, try reaching for some baby pink frames or pastel tones that won’t be too bold or cause too much of a scene. After all, it is your dress we are all going to be swooning after! If you have a darker complexion, you can reach for a pair that matches your tones as well to further have them blend in with your fresh makeup look.

Frameless Bold Shape

You may have thought frameless glasses were out, but with some of the newest modern looks, they could never be more in. Find some frameless lenses that have unique geometric shapes. Showing off a subtle style that is as unique as you. These are particularly fun if they are paired with a fun and funky dress that shows off your quirky personality.

Circle Frames

When done right, it doesn’t get more chic than circle frames. From young to old, these are no longer for Harry Potter fans, but the most stylish celebs that walk the runway. We love to pair these with a fun suit that isn’t a traditional cut or color. Allow for your hair to be a simple cut or style while your accessories do all the talking. Take these up a notch and make them chunky or in a fun print like turtle shell!

Turtle Shell

This is not so much a shape of glasses as it is a style. Turtle shell is the sort of pattern that goes with almost any look. If you have a frame style that you absolutely love but you aren’t sure what color to go with, turtle shell is always a great option! They can complement a black or neutral color dress, while adding a bit of spice to a colorful dress.

Makeup

While it is important to choose a pair of frames that compliments your outfit, it is also going to be important to choose makeup that compliments your look. Having some bold eye makeup is going to be overshadowed if you have a pair of bold chunky glasses over them.

Bold Glasses

If you have a pair of bold glasses whether in style or color, try to have more subtle eye makeup. Otherwise, it can make the area around your eyes look really crowded. Instead, go with a more subtle eyeshadow and thin eyeliner.

Subtle Frames

If you decide to reach for frames that blend in more with your look (or are even frameless) and do not have too thick of frames, then you have a bit more freedom with your makeup. You will still want to keep in mind colors if there is any color in the thin frames or sidebands, but otherwise you can get a bit wilder with the style.

Getting ready for a formal event can be both fun and stressful! Not all of us have ball gowns in our closet, nor all the perfect accessories to go with it! Luckily, when it comes to glasses you have a few options whether you want to go with a statement piece or something more subtle so the rest of your outfit can do the talking. Either way, there is no doubt glasses will never inhibit a great formal look. Consider some of these tips to make whatever look you want to rock, effortless.
