Rekindling The Spark In A Long-term Relationship

After many years, the fiery passion in a relationship can slowly start to die. However, this flame can be brought back to life. Here are just a few ways to rekindle the spark in a long-term relationship.

Talk it out

A lack of communication will cause you both to drift apart. Making sure that you’re both talking to each other and having meaningful conversations regularly is important. Sometimes life can get in the way, preventing you from having these conversations – you may both be working different shifts or focusing all your attention on a child. Whatever the case, try to make time just for the two of you to talk. Going out on a date or having a few drinks (if you drink) could help you both to open up. Alternatively, if a lack of communication has grown particularly bad, you consider trying relationship counselling.

Try new things together

Getting into a routine can make a relationship dull. Relationships are often so exciting at first because everything is new. Try to relive this excitement by trying new things together. This could involve visiting new places, trying new activities and tasting new foods. Doing new things together could also allow you to learn new things about one another. Be more intimate

Staying physically close will also help you to stay emotionally close. This could be something as simple as kissing each other daily or holding hands as you walk down the street. For most couples, sex is also important – if you find that you’ve both lose sexual interest, it might be worth looking into sex therapy. You don’t want to keep distancing yourself from one another otherwise you could unintentionally create an awkwardness around physical contact.

Take up joint goals

Working towards goals together can also help bring you together and rekindle the flame. You could both start training for a run together or you could start financially planning for a holiday or you could both taking up dancing lessons. Whatever the goal may be, it’s important that you both share a passion for it. By both pouring your energy into this joint goal, you’ll also both be pouring energy into your relationship.

Take up individual goals

Individual goals are also important in a relationship. Having such goals shows ambition – and ambition is attractive. It also allows you to both continue growing as individual people, which can stop the relationship getting boring. Finally, following individual goals can give us a sense of freedom, which can make us feel more comfortable in a relationship by not feeling trapped. An individual goal could be anything you want. Just make sure that it’s something that you’re doing for yourself and not for anyone else.
