Tell us about your career and background.
I have been in the neonatal world for over 23 years as a clinical nurse, nurse manager and educator. I took some time off and worked in the business side of healthcare in sales and business development to learn the industry from another perspective. Currently I am undertaking my Masters of research primarily looking at the effects of separation between mothers and babies in the special care nurseries. I also sit on the Board of Directors for a NFP Life Little Treasures.
Describe a typical work day for you.
My work days are unique in that they are never the same. Primarily I assist students and graduates entering the neonatal nursing careers and have been very fortunate to be a part of the establishment of our 5th Neonatal Intensive Care unit in Victoria. I could be assisting nursing students the foundation of working with babies, through to assisting the sickest and smallest preemie babies in critical stabilisation.
I am constant contact with the hospitals we supply our nappies to and our manufacturing and regulation teams for the support of our CPAP device. My day is clinical and business all in one.
What advice do you have for those wanting to start a business?
Research your business idea out in the relevant market first. Establishing your forecasts for growth is important particularly when applying for business/financial support. Get likeminded people around you, I joined a number of amazing business communities that I could throw ideas around and felt like they just understood which kept my passion alive.
What’s next for you, and Bidibots?
Our next move is to distribute our device to a select number of NICU’s first in Australia. We have had enquiry in other countries who would like to see it supplied in their NICU’s which once established here will definitely be the following move. We have a number of other products that wed like to see get to market so I guess the designs and manufacturing will continue until we see babies using our products that give a real difference and better their outcomes.
