Tell us about Tailor Skincare.
Tailor Skincare is New Zealand’s authority on natural skincare. With our clean, conscious range we lead with transparency and are focused on ingredient education.
What inspired you to start Tailor Skincare?
I wanted to create quality natural skincare without the compromise. Products that Tailor your skin with enough of the active ingredient in the formula to have an impact. But with no nasty ingredients included.
Tell us about your career and background.
I started my skincare career during a stint in California’s biotech start up scene. Through this experience I began to question all of the chemicals we come into contact with and those that are in our products. I didn’t like what I found in the skincare I was using so I decided to make my own. With my post grad science degree I had a good foundation to understand basic cosmetic chemistry. But I also studied cosmetic chemistry to gain a deeper understanding of this niche skill set.
Describe a typical workday for you.
Wake up, yoga, coffee, drop Annabelle (my 1-year-old) at school, head to work, “eat the frog” (meaning do the biggest most overwhelming task first. So everything else after that is easy). I’m working part time as school pick ups happen at 3.30. So when I’m at work I need to make sure I get the most out of each hour. It’s funny as I feel like I achieve more in less time. Plus I have a great team.
What advice do you have for those wanting to start a business?
I’d ask them two questions. Would you do it for free because you love it so much? Will you regret it for the rest of your life if you don’t give this business idea a red hot crack? Then follow on and say – business is hard. The excitement will wear off from time to time. But if you truly feel this is your calling then dive in headfirst and don’t give up.
What’s next for you and Tailor?
Next for me – who knows. Baby number 2 (jokes). For Tailor we have just launched our Trans-Tasman Face of Tailor search! Where we’ll choose one incredible human who embodies their own unique definition of beauty. https://tailorskin.co/pages/faceoftailor plus we have a new product launching in September. Exciting times!
Are you the next Face of Tailor? Share your unique definition of beauty on the Tailor website for the chance to win a $5,000 wellness pack, $5,000 of Tailor product donated to their charity of choice, and a guest blog spot. The public will vote for their top 10 submissions, before an expert panel announces the winner on August 10.
