Nutricare, a new natural health innovator, has developed a game-changing wound care solution for everyone, launching PATCH – an advanced new range of hypoallergenic adhesive organic strips.
A natural approach to wound care, the PATCH range suits all skin types and will provide an alternative for those with sensitive skin who experience irritation and redness from common adhesive plasters.
The range features four products, PATCH NATURAL, PATCH COCONUT OIL KIDS, PATCH ACTIVATED CHARCOAL and PATCH ALOE VERA, all made with organic bamboo fibre and added natural goodness in the form of charcoal, aloe vera and coconut oil, to soothe the skin and assist in wound recovery.
PATCH was born when father-of-two and Nutricare founder, James Dutton, discovered his own son was having a reaction to an adhesive bandage, resulting in raised, red and blistered skin in the area the bandage was applied.
We chat to James about the chaos that is start-up life.
Tell us about PATCH.
PATCH organic strips are the first of the PATCH organic bandages, they are a natural approach to wound care. We’ve made them with organic bamboo fibre and added extra natural goodness in the form of activated charcoal, aloe vera and coconut oil, all natural and historically proven to soothe symptoms and wound recovery.
PATCH has been engineered to be the most sensitive and natural wound care alternative in the market. They are also hypoallergenic adhesives, suitable for even the most sensitive of skin types. That means no more red marks from your conventional adhesive bandage!
What inspired you to start PATCH?
PATCH was born when I discovered my son was having a reaction to a common adhesive bandage, resulting in raised, red and blistered skin in the area the bandage was applied.
As a parent, I wasn’t aware of the number of chemicals in regular adhesive bandages and that they could cause harm to my little boy’s skin. The reaction his skin had come as a shock to me and I immediately starting thinking of ways I could combat the problem.
As I did my research I discovered so many others have allergies just like my son. I created PATCH to provide them with a wound care solution that would not only enable healing but not keep them from being outside, exploring and enjoying life.
PATCH organic strips have been created to suit every skin type and are made with a gentle pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA), certified organic bamboo fibre and organic bamboo gauze in order to be as gentle on the skin and as environmentally friendly as possible.
Tell us about your career and background.
My background has always been in business, from leaving school at the age of 16 to start my building apprenticeship to professionally racing jet skis and then cars, through to the running of my own businesses in the luxury and financial space. I guess you could call me a serial entrepreneur.
All my past business experiences have been the building blocks to growing my new venture, Nutricare.
I started working for the family business, DUTTONS, a world leader in exotic and classic cars, probably before the legal age. I left school when I was 16 to do my building apprenticeship, as I have always been pretty good at working with my hands. At that age I was motivated by money so while I was doing the building apprenticeship I also worked at JB HI FI, started in sales and worked my way up to State Management position. From my days at JB HI FI I went back to help my father at DUTTONS where I grew the brand across multiple sponsorship channels and in multiple categories. During that time, I professionally raced jet skis on a global level and then that progressed into building a race team and professionally racing cars. I then launched my own business which was an online luxury goods, classifieds and magazine that was launched globally, The GFC hit and no one was buying superyachts anymore so I then started my asset finance business whilst building an automotive finance app.
Now with a family of my own, and new opportunities in the natural healthcare space, prompted by my experience with my sons, I embarked on my Nutricare business.
My idea was simple. To make existing products better. To create natural solutions to common health care items such as wound and skin care, personal and dental care. Created with the most premium, sustainable ingredients available, our products empower consumers with choices that make significant differences to their everyday lives and the world we live in.
When it comes to personal health and the environment, we believe that the natural way is the only way. For your health, your world, your pocket. Nutricare is an Australian owned and operated company.
Describe a typical work day for you.
My typical work day is start-up-chaos. I’d like to think of it as organised chaos but on any given day I am operating in 10 roles at once, jumping from marketing activities to financial planning, sales presentations, production management to being talent in video intros for example. Luckily, I have a great team of people around me that help to keep things in line, and are just as passionate as I am so they keep thing moving at a fast pace.
What advice do you have for those wanting to start a business?
Be bloody resilient, be adaptable, be agile and never take no for an answer, but, if you do have to – use it and grow! Where there is a will there is a way. When you have an idea, go for it.
These all sound like a bunch of clichés but it’s what I live by. I don’t think I walked away from any meeting feeling like I’ve wasted time.
Sure you feel like crap when you have put a lot of effort into things that don’t get the result you were expecting but I use these as lessons and I also look at why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again. Most importantly I take the time to assess daily outcomes and ensure that they are aligned to our core and values.
What’s next for you, and PATCH?
PATCH will have a fun and extended life. We have been working on new products to be released in the near future once our formulations are perfected. We are currently working on a mineral range of PATCHes so stay tuned.
In addition to PATCH, our parent company, Nutricare, are about to release a range of other products that fit in the ‘natural medical’ segment including but not limited to oral care and body care.
