Get your groove on for National Youth Week 2011 (NYW). NYW is Australia’s largest celebration of young people and is running from April 1-10. NYW is a joint federal, state and local government initiative and is Australia’s largest celebration of youth culture.
In conjunction with Video Hots, celebrations will be kicked off in style. Head down to Melbourne’s Birrarung Marr on April 2nd, on the Yarra River next to Federation Square at 12:30pm this Saturday.
NYW Ambassadors Dylan Lewis and Faustina Agolley (Video Hits), Callum Hann (MasterChef), Ashleigh Brewer and Jordy Lucas (Neighbours) and Madeleine Madden (Generation One) will be there to celebrate the launch. Get even more excited because you will also be treated to the tunes of Jebediah, The Vines and Tim & Jean.
NYW is when young Australians aged 12-25 are encouraged to recognise the positive contribution they make to their communities and voice concerns or issues relevant to them.
The 2011 official theme – Own It! – recognises that NYW is run by young people, for young people and is a call to action for all young Australians to take ownership of the week by getting involved in the thousands of events and competitions that are happening across Australia.
Events across the country will feature entertainment from local musicians, free giveaways and even a National Talent Competition – so hit the website to enter. Young creative talents in the areas of music, writing, short film, photography and graphic design will be on show.
