In honour of Anti-Poverty Week (16th-22nd October 2016), some of Melbourne’s top food establishments, including Lucy Liu, Feast of Merit, Long Story Short Cafe and Bahari will ‘Tip It Forward’ for Foodbank Victoria by donating a percentage of tips to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the 1 in 6 Australians suffering from food insecurity.
2016 marks the second annual ‘Tip It Forward’ campaign in support of the state’s largest food relief agency, Foodbank Victoria, and will encourage Melbourne foodies to think about their food decisions, those going hungry in our own backyard, and what food choices mean for the sustainability of our environment.
Food establishments involved will help address food insecurity in Australia by donating all tips, a percentage of tips or the owners may match the week’s tips (entirely up to the restaurant’s teams), with 100% of proceeds going directly to Foodbank Victoria.
Melbourne foodies are encouraged to dine in and tip generously at participating venues, which include: Lucy Liu, Feast of Merit, Cobb Lane Bakery, Bahari, Two Birds One Stone, Long Story Short Café, 1983 Espresso and Tucker Street food boxes who are donating $5 per box ordered to Tip It Forward.
Heleena Alatsas, founder of Tip It Forward says, “We’re so grateful to the food spots who support our goal of raising awareness of food insecurity in Australia, helping Foodbank in its efforts to end hunger. With restaurants donating a percentage of tips (their choice) towards the cause, local foodies can do their part to end hunger by ‘tipping it forward’ whilst dining out.”
Participating establishments can be recognised via Tip It Forward’s wooden arrow tip coin box at the venue counters.
Foodies are encouraged to participate by tipping generously during the week at participating restaurants and sharing a photo on their social media of their meals and/or empty plates using the #tipitforward.
