Imagine if asking a trivial question could help someone with with a mental health issue figure out an answer. Shaun de Vries and Fiona Thompson from mental health organisation, Smiling Mind, are here to tell you it can.
The Community Ambassadors are calling on Melbournites with curious minds and generous hearts to join the Smiling Mind Trivia Night at Welcome to Thornbury this Thursday the 17th of November.
As a not-for-profit organisation, Smiling Mind relies on donations, fundraising, philanthropic grants, sponsorships and partnerships to be able to develop and offer mindfulness-based apps and programs. More than 45% of Australians aged 18-65 experience a mental health disorder at some point in their lives.
These disorders are most likely to include anxiety, depression or substance abuse. And it’s even more likely that you, or someone you’re close to, have experienced symptoms that fall into the category of mental illness.
Mindfulness meditation is a positive way to enhance your wellbeing and has become a popular tool for the development of resilience and the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, and other physical and mental illnesses.
Smiling Mind’s programs are based on mindfulness meditation and are developed together with psychologists and health professionals.
Proceeds from the trivia night will help to continue development and delivery of free mindfulness apps, and mental health and wellbeing tools to individuals, organisations and the education sector.
