Melbourne’s Higher Ground has teamed up with Skip – the online food and coffee ordering app – to help raise money to support CaféSmart, the StreetSmart program, which takes action against homelessness through hard-to-reach grassroots services and projects.
Located on the corner of Spencer and Little Bourke streets, Higher Ground is the latest venue from Nathan Toleman, Ben Clark, Diamond Rozakeas and their partners – also owners of popular cafes Top Paddock and The Kettle Black.
Known for its long queues waiting to enjoy its innovative cuisine and speciality coffees, Higher Ground is the ideal spot to help raise funds for CaféSmart – which has raised and distributed over $4million to support grassroots homeless services to date.
For five days, from 10th October – 14th October, all hot takeaway beverages (small or large) ordered through Skip or at the Higher Ground coffee cart (positioned outside the café) will only cost $3. For every purchase made through Skip, $2 will be donated to CaféSmart – $1 from Higher Ground and $1 from Skip. Furthermore, for every coffee cart counter-purchase, Higher Ground will also donate $1 to CaféSmart.
StreetSmart CEO, Adam Robinson, says: “We’re very grateful that Skip and Higher Ground have joined for this fundraising campaign. It’s a great way to help us connect to consumers digitally at the point of purchase and encourage micro donations. It also helps build awareness of the issue and our work in the community toward helping the homeless.”

The Skip app allows customers to skip the queue by ordering and paying via their smartphone ahead of time, saving time and hassle when they pick up their order. So, from 10th – 14th October, customers can skip the queue, enjoy a top coffee, and support a great cause by simply opening Skip on their mobile, tapping ‘See Nearby Venues’ and selecting Higher Ground. After choosing their coffee and selecting a pick-up time, customers will receive a text telling them when their order is ready – it’s as easy as that.
