When I first heard about electric bikes, I thought, ‘Pff, righto, what’s the point of that?’ closely followed by, ‘I’m not a granny.’
You must know this: I’m not always right.
And when I’m not, I’m generally very, very wrong.
I’m not too proud to admit that I was wrong about electric bikes. I’m also not too proud to admit that I’m now an absolute convert.
Enter these beauties; Dyson Bikes.
Not to be confused with the vacuums, Dyson Bikes was founded in 2014. After seeing a gap in the Australian market, David Metzke and his wife Naomi Dyson went about transforming how we commute and exercise, with an affordable, accessible and a sustainable transport option; the ‘e-bike’.
E-bikes are for everyone from those with mobility, injury or illness issues, to everyday commuters and cycling enthusiasts tackling barriers like long distances, high hills or a sweatless work trip with optional pedal power.
“More people are realising the benefits of e-bikes, especially when heading to and from work – there’s traffic avoidance, no running costs such as tolls, parking and petrol, the choice to make your commute exercise-focused or as easy as you want, as well as a minimal environmental impact,” said Dyson Bikes co-founder David Metzke.
With components specifically suited for the varied Australian climate, state-of-the-art electric motors, high quality Shimano gears and braking systems, and European-inspired design sensibilities, Dyson Bikes offers a fresh approach to electric bicycles.
“Unlike many imported e-bikes in the market, our chosen materials are steel or aluminium, so they are the highest quality, lightweight and can stand up to the harsh Australian sun without going brittle like plastic components can,” said David.
“We have designed the bikes from the ground up to integrate electric components seamlessly into the frame – no one need know you are riding an electric bike. Battery technologies are just like what you would find in a Tesla.”
Told you.
I was so wrong.
And I knew it the second I hopped on my Bondi II – it was simple to use, light to ride and easy to navigate.
The thing that surprised me the most was it was just like riding a normal bike (because it is a normal bike), only with the option and capacity to kick in a little help when needed.
And lemme tell you, after riding for a while, and staring down, or should I say up, the face of a big hill that was looming, I gladly took the extra help.
Here’s what I found; I could ride better, for longer, and further, with my Dyson Bike.
Dyson Bikes e-bikes cost around 15-20 cents to charge, with each charge taking about four to six hours to complete and lasting approximately 60-100km, depending on the model.
All Dyson Bikes come with a full 12-month warranty, world class aftersales service and are designed to meet Australian regulations.
Move over cars, the King of the road has arrived.
