
Being a tourist in Philadelphia means a lot of places to visit with historical significance, such as where the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence at Independence Hall or where the city’s Liberty Bell rang for the first time in 1776. Avoiding this history of the state is difficult, though there are things and places to do and go that do not involve it. Though history is a major piece of what makes this city great.
Independence National Park
Independence National Park is more than just a park. The founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence here as well as you can see the Liberty Bell in all her glory here. The You can visit the Congress Hall, Franklin Country, and the Bishop White House, used briefly as the white house was the actual white house was built. Everything is free to the public.
Magic Gardens
This is an outdoor not-for-profit art gallery. It is truly a magical space if you are enjoying one of the city’s marijuana treats. It is truly an alternative space and a perfect place for alternative activities. It is an installation made from found objects of all kinds and is a place to immerse your mind in the mosaic murals.

Philadelphia Museum of Art
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a thing the entire family can enjoy. It has some of the best and most beautiful work from around the country and world. It is the third largest in the Country with a mixture of works from Renaissance, impressionist, American and modern artists. It also has an amazing collection of art upstairs showcasing different cultures from around the world from Indian temples to medieval cloisters.
South Street
South Street is made for alternative activities. Is a very distinct district and is home to many street festivals during the summer and unique little boutique shops and restaurants. This area is perfect for engaging in recreational activities or visiting one of the convenient dispensaries though they probably won’t sell to you if you do not hold a state medical marijuana card, it never hurts to just browse the goods.
The Oval
The oval is a perfect place to go during the summer months. It is eight acres of outdoor venues that move and transform the park it is in. There is always something unique to do like playing a giant game of connect Four or visiting any number of the little traveling food vendors serving everything for elephant ears to hotdogs. There are often beer gardens set up for adults to enjoy and often other activities take place as well. Just remember, marijuana is not recreationally legal in the state so smoking it is not advised.
Franklin Square
Franklin Square is a fun place to visit for a round 18-holes surrounded by people from the history of Philadelphia or to have a little picnic before taking a ride on the Liberty Carousel. The area is family friendly so smoking marijuana is not advised though enjoying an edible treat would make the golf game enjoyable as well as if you took a carousel ride right afterward.
Eastern State Penitentiary
If you really must go to jail, it is advisable to visit one only. The Eastern State Penitentiary was called home by some American’s mobsters such as bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capon. It operated from 1829 to 1971 and help design prisons around the county. Today it is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, but it is also a place to take a trip and have a bit of fun. It is a great place to remind one of their rights and their freedoms and for recognizing how far the country has come since the times when the prison was built and operational.
Shane Confectionary
Visiting the Sane Confectionary is like visiting the past. The staff who run the show are required to wear period dress as their uniform and when visiting a candy shop that has been in business since 1863, it is a nice reminder of what we as a people have. It is also nice to see so many amazing treats on display. They even allow you to watch as they make some of those delicious treats which will be going up for sale in the store.
Spending time in Philadelphia or with the 420 doctors in Pennsylvania means spending time in history. It also means a lot of fun activities throughout the city. Some of these activities can get your arrested if you partake in any adult activities in certain areas. They have their medical marijuana system and if you are not registered with it, you will not be able to legally partake. If you are a local, then make sure you have your medical marijuana card ready.
