Eating Clean And Green: Embracing An Organic Lifestyle

Modern society is sick in more ways than can almost be counted, with the earth, water, and air poisoned in some places, fires breaking out, animals dying because of chemicals, and the list goes on forever. It is a bleak picture, and a bit dramatic, but it highlights the point that the fewest of us are anywhere near the ideal level of health we could or should be, and as we get older, these issues get much more serious. If we do not take action, regain some control, and do something about the situation, things will quickly go from bad to worse, and we will have to face some painful consequences. So, it’s time to make some positive changes in your life, and here is as good a place to start as any, so let’s get started on the journey to health.

Get Educated

As with anything else, you have to start with gathering information, educating yourself, and gaining knowledge about the benefits of healthy living and the impact that organic products can have on your body and your environment. Whether it is farming, how much of a change something like barn laid eggs can have, or how to identify organic products when you are out shopping, knowledge is power. So you should arm yourself with information and empower yourself to make informed choices that align with your goals and values.

Add Organic Food to Your Diet

The best way to begin living an organic lifestyle is by switching to organic food where you can, as it will improve your health and your environment. Your food will be free from pesticides and chemicals; it will taste better and will be fresher and more nutritious as well. The downside? Organic food is generally a little more expensive and harder to find sometimes, depending on where you live, which store you go to, and so on. For example, certified organic eggs are laid by chickens that were not fed any antibiotics or hormones, which is why these eggs are good for your health. If you want to go a step further, try and find certified humane eggs raised and handled. This means that your eggs were laid by hens who were not kept locked in tiny cages their entire lives. Also, try and find dairy products and meat that are organic, with which you will be helping to create a demand for healthy and natural animal products, from animals that were also treated humanely.

Buy from Your Local Market

One of the main ways you can lead a healthy lifestyle is by finding and buying the organic food you want at a local market. Of course, how far you go with this is up to you, so if you do not want to completely give up on imported food and vegetables, you can mix and match a little, but try to support your home economy as much as you can while also leading a healthy lifestyle. Begin by finding your local farmer’s market or other stores that offer organic produce, and there are even some areas that have indigenous fruit and vegetables delivered to your doorstep every day if you choose, all sourced from local farmers, free of extra pesticides and chemicals. So start to look or ask around if you do not already know about the farmer’s markets and see what is offered.

Grow Your Own

One foolproof way to add organic food to your diet is to just cultivate your little organic garden, where you can grow and eat your fruits and vegetables. Not only will it look and smell lovely, but you will have a healthy hobby that sees you interact with the earth, the sun, and the air, and knowing you had a part in the food that is now on the table will make it even taste different and give you a whole other feeling. This is why people who hunt and fish for their food sometimes have a completely different, much deeper, and more respectful connection to the food they eat, as they know the effort it took to get it on the table and the animal they took it from. This constant churning out of food, loaded with chemicals, off the factory line from animals that barely know what the sun looks like, just is not healthy on any level, which then transfers the “sickness” to us, so to speak. Now you may not be able to just go hunting and trapping, but you should be able to make your cozy little garden. You will save money, have a productive and healthy hobby that helps you relax and unwind amid a chaotic life and have a steady supply of ingredients for many meals to come.

Cook Your Way Forward

Try to make your own meals, at least routinely. There is nothing wrong with going out to a restaurant every once in a while or even getting some fast food, but that should never be the norm, especially with fast food, as the heavily processed, greasy food can really do a number on your arteries, heart, and whole body overall. Fast food as a “steady diet” is pretty much one of the worst things you can do to your body, so if that is a habit of yours, drop it immediately, and start cooking your meals as much as you can. Cooking is a skill everyone should know the basics of, as not only is it healthier if you know how to decide what ingredients go into the food, but if you know how to cook a meal or two, you will never be dependent on someone else, fast food, or whatever. This way, you will be able to provide for yourself when you have to. It does not have to be anything complicated either; start simple with something like spaghetti.

A healthy lifestyle begins with what you eat, what your diet consists of, and how many vitamins and nutrients your body gets, and this is a great place to get started. Knowing what is good for you to eat, what you can grow in your garden, and so on, all the pieces matter.
