Episode: Heresy has just rolled out, bringing a ton of updates and content, including a brand-new activity, The Nether, that gives Guardians a chance to score some of the most powerful weapons in the game.
To help you tackle this activity with ease, we’ve gathered a bunch of tried-and-true tips and tricks that’ll improve your build and make the run much easier. And if you want to have an even smoother experience, you can always get a Destiny 2 boost and grab all the latest goodies fast and stress-free.
Now, let’s find out how to dominate The Nether!
Void Weapons are the Absolute Meta
Void weapons are the meta right now thanks to the new Tablet of Ruin artifact perks. One of the best is Volatile Marksman, which grants you Volatile Rounds on precision hits and final blows, while also boosting your class ability regen. The boost is available in the Tome of Want, but to make it work, you need to activate the Tome of Want ritual with the Scriptures slotted in.
Another killer perk is Malignant Harvest, creating weakening bursts whenever you’re fighting with Volatile weapons. If you want to go even further, slap on Void Flux, and your shots on weakened targets will trigger even more Volatile explosions. But even without this extra perk, the first two alone can turn any Void weapon into an add-clearing monster.
Speaking of weapons, Void machine guns are straight-up broken this season with the Overload artifact perk, which lets you stun and exhaust enemies while keeping your weapon in a permanent overcharged state. Add in Hold the Line, and your machine gun gets a reload speed and stability buff, plus kills heal you—which is massively helpful in The Nether, since you don’t regen HP and every bit of that healing counts.
Hammerhead MG is a top-tier choice, and you can also go with Retrofit Escapade that offers insane DPS for add clearing and solid precision damage for chunkier enemies.
As for other weapon types, Choir of One is an absolute menace in The Nether because you can equip Destabilizing Rounds Refit to trigger Void bursts on kills, making enemies Volatile and giving you even more Volatile Rounds. This makes it feel like a Void MG, absolutely shredding adds, while also dealing insane boss damage when hip-firing.
Another top-tier pick is the newly reworked Lord of Wolves shotgun. Unlike before, you don’t have to charge up or hold reload to access its special fire mode—just hip-fire, and you’ll melt enemies instantly, or ADS to make it more precise.
Use Your Weapons to Heal
Staying healed is gonna be a huge challenge in this activity, so you’ll need every bit of HP you can get. Luckily, some weapons can actually help with that.
Adamantite is a new episodic weapon that can heal both you and your teammates. Another solid healing option is Crimson, thanks to its Cruel Remedy trait, which restores health on kills. If you want to keep your whole team alive, Lumina is another fantastic pick, since it lets you boost your allies’ HP as well. One more exotic that provides some clutch healing is Suros Regime, with its special trait giving you a chance to regain HP on kills.
Runic Enhancement Buffs
You’ll level up your Nether Enhancements every two ranks of your overall reputation, unlocking a set of powerful runes along the way. Each rune comes with its own enhancement cost depending on the level, so you can mix and match them to boost your survivability and get various buffs for your run.
Right from the start at Enhancement Level I, you’ll have the Recuperation Rune that reduces your ability cooldowns every time you consume a Healing Orb. Since you’ll be going after these orbs basically non-stop, this cooldown reduction will passively kick in, giving you a solid edge in battle.
Next up, at Level II, you should definitely be looking at the Defense Rune. It’ll grant you an overshield every time you pick up a Healing Orb, forcing enemies to burn through it before they can touch your HP. When healing sources are limited, this extra layer of defense can be a huge lifesaver.
At Level III, you can grab the Healing Rune that amplifies the healing power of orbs, making every pickup far more effective.
If you’re tackling Expert difficulty, definitely consider the Arising Rune. It prevents your first death from consuming a revive token, which is huge when your team is limited to just nine revives for the entire run. There are plenty of other useful runes, but if you’re pushing for higher difficulties and bigger rewards, we strongly recommend prioritizing those that help you stay alive first
