We’re a month in to 2021 and it seems as many expected that there is little change from the end of last year that saw many changes to a full time remote working lifestyle – although things are starting to look up with successful vaccination programs starting to spread and many parts of the world recording lower case numbers, it seems remote working is here to stay whether we like it or not. Adapting to your new remote working lifestyle can certainly be difficult, particularly if you thought it was only going to be temporary – the good news however is that there are a couple of options available that could be the most fitting for you, and it may just be down to exploring which suits your lifestyle more.
The stay-at-home remote worker – Setting up a home office and staying with all of your creature comforts is certainly appealing to some – for others it may be a requirement for the type of work that you do. The good news is that you’re able to set up to most comfortable working environment possible to keep you on task and to keep you motivated – if you’re sure you’ll be working remotely on a permanent basis, now may be a perfect time to invest in setting up a space that is everything you need and provide the comfortable workspace you’ve been missing in the office this whole time. Given you can always change it later, future proofing for adjustments is a great idea too! Check out validpick.com for more information on setting up a home office.
The digital nomad – Many have adjusted to this way of life for a number of years now and there are some great resources to discovering whether or not the digital nomad approach to remote working is for you, you can find some at digitalnomads.world for example with a collective of those who have been living the life – if you work allows you too, travelling with your location-independent job can help you see the world and get away from the same four walls each day. It’s certainly a great opportunity for the more adventurous, and with many countries now offering remote working visas for digital nomads, you’re even able to stay in one place you love for a little longer. There are certainly challenges for this change, but if you’re willing to put a little more out there, this may do more than just change the way you work, but your whole approach to living too!
Whilst things are changing, it does provide some big opportunities for change, whether for comfort or for adventure, and all it takes is to seek out whichever you prefer – and there is plenty out there to help you find your way too. Remote working doesn’t need to be more of the same and adapting to your new lifestyle provides plenty of opportunity for big change.
