We all want to look great in our pics and selfies; it’s pretty much the whole point, right? While we put a lot of effort into them, we often come out looking washed-out or greasy. It can even seem a little unfair at times.
There’s some hope, though. With a few basic photo hacks, you can snap your way to photo victory at last. Take a quick look at some new Facetune makeup guides, and then put a few of our tricks into practice to see for yourself!
Masks
Not everyone uses masks before applying makeup, but we actually should be. The mask acts as a preparation for the makeup to follow and lays the ground for whichever approach you’re thinking of taking afterward.
You might not see it yourself, but the lens definitely will. Using a good pre-makeup mask will ensure that the makeup you’re using beams out in its full glory. It’s sort of like preparing a surface before applying the first coat of paint. It just comes out better that way.
Foundation and Concealer
Using concealers and foundations should be step number two. Using a denser, thicker concealer in areas like just below your eyes makes a massive difference for a lot of folks, letting them shine in pics.
Once you’ve used the concealer, you can subtly blend in your foundation so that everything is nice and even in tone. Remember the rule of matching the tone with your collarbone so that you appear smooth and even throughout.
Highlighting
Using a highlighter is a bit of an art, and it’s one of those cases where you should go gently. Remember that you can always take a second pass with a highlight if you have applied too little the first time.
Faces obviously differ, but the main areas that can use some highlighting are above the cheekbones, along the bridge of the nose, and above the brow. Once these areas are popping as they should, you’re on the road to a super snap!
Blusher
There are several kinds of blushers out there, and they all aim for a particular effect. Cream blushers might be the best all-around option, although opinions will vary here. Whichever kind you prefer, it changes things quite a bit.
A blusher will make most faces seem more expressive and lively, both in ordinary life and also through the lens. There’s nothing the camera loves more than full, lively expressions on women’s faces. You won’t be sorry you tried it out.
Matte Finisher
Finally, you might want to remove the appearance of those pesky fine lines we all have on our face. Applying a matte finisher will just smooth across your features to make everything blend naturally.
It’s the cherry on top. Smoothing out your features with the matte effect also does one other very important thing, when it comes to photos. It reduces that dreaded glare you sometimes (often, actually!) see in photos.
Glare is public enemy number one for the selfie world, and it extends to all kinds of photos more generally too. The last thing you want is that greasy glare to ruin everything, just as you were beginning to improve your snaps.
Last Thoughts
Photos are a creative and expressive thing, and taking them is not supposed to be a source of anguish for us. Yet, it can often seem that way when pic after pic comes back looking underwhelming.
With a few minor photo hacks, though, you can really come out looking great. There’s always an element of trial and error with these things, but then that can be more than half the fun if you’re doing it right! Joy is meant to be the whole point, after all.
