Finding a career you love is not the hard part, it’s being chosen for a role that suits your skills, talents, needs, and aspirations. You need to do things that will separate you from the herd and allow employers to meet your gaze. The issue for many of us who are looking for a new career is, how do we get out a foot in the door if we have never actually worked in the career itself? Narrow your search
Don’t waste your time on various job boards’ websites that don’t have the types of jobs you’re searching for. Many general job boards will have some roles you will be interested in but most of the time they will be few and far between. We recommend that you use specialist websites such as this kind for doctor jobs. If you were a doctor, you wouldn’t search for your type of role, on a random general job search website. You would go to this kind of website because it has lots of roles that are specifically for your specialist role. You can’t really transfer your skills as a doctor anywhere other than at a hospital role or perhaps a general surgery. If you fall into this kid of niche for your role, then narrow your search as mentioned.
Ask for training
Most employers will have onboarding programs that are in-house or off-site training regimens for new staff. However, they aren’t always for just new hirings, they can be for employees to gain valued skills. The issue is, many employers will limit this to just employees they think will pass, so they have additional workers with managerial qualities. This is good for their future workforce but because they limit this, it can be difficult to be accepted. It’s a good idea to speak with your HR team, let them know your intentions and see what they can do for you. If they cannot provide in-hour training like the type you want, they may be able to direct you to private companies or online courses.
Go to conferences
Some people say you should go to jobs fairs to see what kind of networking you can do, but we say you should go to business conferences. Why? Well, you get a different kind of person there. Many of them will be business owners, pundits, professionals, experts and those that are seeking to hire in among these people. Conferences are also industry-specific, so you will have a higher chance of meeting people like you, unlike a jobs fair or networking event.
