Olivia Newton John made it famous in 1980 and now Christie Whelan is bringing sexy back in the stage show production of Xanadu.
I have to confess I haven’t seen the film, but the concept of a musical on skates appeals to me. Not to mention Christie’s performance in the Britney Spears Cabaret was so fantastic, I can’t wait to see her perform again.
The story of Xanadu is essentially the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, in 1980.
She is on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! I am thoroughly intrigued by the storyline and truly looking forward to seeing the whole cast on wheels, rather than just Kira.
The climax comes when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny – her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds. Cinderella story anyone?
A movie has nothing on the lights, colour and movement of a stage show, and this in itself assures that I will enjoy the production. Playing at Docklands in Melbourne for a limited season, then heading to Sydney and Brisbane, you too can enjoy the magic of Xanadu on stage.
This moving, electrifying tale of endless fun will allow you to enjoy the original, legendary chart-topping tunes from the film, whilst seeing it with a fresh (and super talented) cast.
Perfect for Xanadu fans of past and present – young and old. And for those who don’t even know they are yet. Take your Nanna! Or your niece! And I will hire the film so I have something to compare to…
