I’d never been to a Cirque du Soleil show before. I’d heard they were good. Incredible, in fact. But there wasn’t anything in particular swaying me to purchase a ticket and head along to a performance.
Sure, I like circus arts. I like being wowed. I like the atmosphere. But, for whatever reason, the rave reviews of a few people had never made me stop in my tracks and yell, “I must go!”
So I am here to tell you, if you have never been to a Cirque du Soleil show before, that you must go.
Cirque du Soleil’s OVO is more than a show; it’s a spectacular. It’s a fully immersive experience – one that delights all senses. The music is magical, the costumes are marvellous and, of course, the performers are awe-inspiring.
My favourite performances of the night were the crickets that defied gravity on the trampo-wall, the ants with their foot juggling and Icarian games and the flying scarabs. But they were all good. All of them. From the contortion to hand balancing, the aerial silk to slackwire; the talent on display was astounding. It was like witnessing the best CGI, the most incredible special effects… that aren’t.
The characters that lead the show, and link it altogether, did an excellent job of entertaining the crowd – adults and children alike. And the entire show comes together in a way that leaves you with goose bumps and a wowed smile.
So, it’s not even up for debate – go. Go and see OVO. If the rave reviews of a few people haven’t swayed you, if this review hasn’t swayed you, then you need to sway yourself.
Ooo and ahh with the crowd. Get lost in a magical world where nothing is impossible. You won’t regret it. The only thing you will regret is the fact it’s taken you so long to get there in the first place.
Cirque du Soleil’s OVO is now playing in Melbourne and opens in Perth on April 14th. For tickets and info, click here or visit their Facebook Page.
