After a very quiet 2020, Rubix Warehouse has been reborn, revamped and is coming in hot with Smokin’ Phoenix Steampunk Circus, an all-new spectacular dinner show experience. You may have memories, however blurry, of international music acts, drum and base nights and artistic showcases at RUBIX Warehouse but this is like nothing else you have seen here before.
Smokin’ Phoenix, Brunswick’s own Steampunk themed circus is in town! Hidden in the industrial back streets of one of Melbourne’s most eccentric suburbs, this tentless circus is held in the iconic Rubix Warehouse on Phoenix Street, Brunswick. RUBIX Warehouse has had a long history of facilitating Brunswick’s distinctive creative subculture and over the years has hosted a mixed bag of underground gigs and alternative artistic events. After a pandemic-forced break, founder and owner of Rubix, Tanya El Gamal, took the chance to revaluate and enter 2021 with a fresh plan to support local artists and to continue the evolution of Rubix.
For those of you who don’t know, the Steampunk trend encompasses a 19th-century industrial revolution inspired fusion of sci-fi and technology; amalgamating fashion, make up, accessories and jewellery with a post-apocalyptic era in mind.
This theatrical experience brings together live music by house band, The Ruffled Feathers, and an award-winning crew of some of Australia’s best circus and cabaret performers lead by the dazzling and unnerving Madame Phoenix. Madame Phoenix leads the show with big vocals and that classic cabaret charm. The show also features Mistress of the Sky, Octavia, named for her fearless contortion while being suspended mid-air, Luna Rouge, the resident burlesque beauty who heats up the room in more ways than one, Vera Von Vixen, a sexy, slinky character who dominants her pole and the crowd, and Mr Manipulator, who is good with his hands and will keep you transfixed.
Smokin’ Phoenix Steampunk Circus fuses art, live music, theatre and performing arts into one extravagantly themed dinner which will fire up all of your senses. This dark and rather moody warehouse venue sets the perfect scene for Smokin’ Phoenix Steampunk Circus and the hazy, red illuminated interior spices up this post-apocalyptic aesthetic in a way that can only be described as kinda sexy.
The show is an ideal outing for lovers of quirky performance, circus theatre, the eccentric at heart and those who love trying new things. Guest will enjoy the unique and interactive performance, which is ideal for singles, couples, group bookings, hens and bucks nights, corporate and group bookings and anyone after a unique post-covid arts extravaganza. Tickets include dinner from the all-new Rubix pizza bar, a complimentary drink on arrival and 1.5 hour Smokin’ Phoenix Steampunk Circus show. Up to two shows per evening will run from Thursdays to Saturdays at 6.30pm and 8.30pm until February.
