Knock Knock who’s there? Jack’s conundrum with identity. And also, that bloody bird again.
Jack pokes fun at the misfortunes of a country boy turned city slicker. For some reason ‘no one is surprised that [he’s] from a small town’. The brutally honest performance encompassed the struggles of a Millenial unpacking what it means to be lonely and how it differs to being alone.
Dwelling on repressed childhood memories and more recent experiences we got a generous glimpse of Jack’s inner thoughts and feelings. From achieving infinite potential on acid, to working in a Greek Cafe, the show made us reflect on the tough situations in our lives and find humour within. Jack kindly pointed out that there is no embarrassment in admitting that you are implicitly lonely on tinder. Isn’t that why we’re all on there anyways? The highlight of his year was taking a behind the scenes photo of 90’s icon ‘Nelly’. Not sure if it was me, or it just got hot in there?
The Belleville Venue provided a cozy space for the show. The intimate setting, and crazy stairwell in the middle of the stage actively engaged Jack with the audience. The key message from the Kitchen Bird was to target the smaller problems before becoming annoyed at the bigger picture.
To find out if there is a bird in the kitchen or if Jack is the Kitchen Bird, you know where to go.
