And a whopping 10/10 for the firecracker that is Kitty Flanagan.
Flanagan brings her show, Hello Kitty Flanagan to the stage of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with a great deal of energy and prowess, answering life’s most harrowing questions.
Why her cat is better than any child… why you never trust a junkie… why Burlesque is a waste of time and even a couple of dating tips if you have Miss Flanagan set in your sights.
There was not one moment in Kitty’s whole performance where I wasn’t in a fit of laughter, not to mention the sell-out crowd. In fact, I think most of the crowd spent their time in an upright, quasi-foetal position, laughing relentlessly at her side-splitting performance.
The beauty of Kitty’s performance is that she can make anything hysterical. She takes mundane, everyday scenarios and spins them into an impressive whirlwind anecdotal adventure that leaves you thinking, how on earth did we get here and God my ribs hurt.
She had a 10-minute act based almost exclusively on apples. Apples! Who can make apples sound funny?
Kitty can! (Pun intended for those who have seen the performance).
A highlight from the performance was Kitty and her sister, Penny Flanagan, who gave a hilarious musical performance about religion and why people in the world need to just ‘shut up’.
A show of good taste that makes light of the everyday, Kitty’s show has definitely been the highlight of all the MICF shows I’ve seen so far, and I personally recommend you head down to catch her in action.
Check out her show Hello Kitty Flanagan at the Athenaeum Theatre Tuesday to Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 6pm until April 21.
