Hot on the heels of their first official release through Avoca Drive/Sony Music Entertainment Australia, ‘Nescience’, Friday September 4 saw Galdive return with ‘Maybe I’, another stunningly beautiful song from this incredibly creative duo who brand their project with 1950s feelings mixed with modern styles which are resolved around high fashion and Expressionism/Modern Art paintings.
Whilst previous releases have cemented the talent Galdive have for creating music by marrying their love for R&B, Classical and Jazz music, ‘Maybe I’ sees them ruminating on what it is to fall in love!
On explaining the meaning behind the track, Osvaldo and Tanisha said, “’Maybe I’ is a simple love song for someone who isn’t ready to commit to a relationship but starting to consider it after they realize how beautiful falling in love is. We decided to take a point of view of someone who doesn’t want to admit that they are having a crush, even though they acknowledge it in their mind.”
The art work, drawn by Tisha, portrays the happy and colourful world in the mind of someone who is falling in love. The image evokes someone falling to the ground, daydreaming about their crush, only to find their crush shocked when they get a peek in to their world. The single is also accompanied by a self-created visualizer.
Galdive composed the song with the intention of not complicating the musical notes but to compliment them with a simple rhythm throughout the song. They wanted to make an intro that showed the transition from people’s day to day usual activity to a different happy world in their mind.
Formed in 2015, it wasn’t until December 2018 that Galdive released their first track ‘Lotus’ which quickly got the attention of publications such as Nourish, College Musicand Aviencloud. Fast forward to 6 singles later in just 2 years, and having already racked up over 10 million combined streams on ‘Cloud’ and ‘5AM’, the duo are surpasing all their goals they set back then – their fourth single ‘Sorbet’ has alone had over a million views on YouTube since its release in June last year!
