Meet the Soul Messin’ Allstars. Conceived by Cookin’ on 3 Burners’ Jake Mason, the ever-evolving project celebrates the soul scene of Melbourne, Australia, and beyond.
Harking back to the tradition of iconic groups from old-school soul labels, like the Stax band, the Soul Messin’ Allstars is a studio band, made up of musicians who eat, sleep and breathe soul and funk. It’s a lively cocktail that brings together artists from across the soul community, and sits under the umbrella of the Melbourne-based independent label Soul Messin’ Records.
So far, the project has featured acclaimed artists from The Putbacks, The Teskey Brothers, Fulton Street, The Meltdown and The Wolfgramm Sisters, along with Cara Robinson – all of whom have come to the project with abounding enthusiasm.
In the studio, the Soul Messin’ Allstars enjoy fluency in the same musical language, allowing them to create songs from the same wellspring. What’s so invigorating about the experience of recording and collaborating is that each guest brings their own particular energy and flavour to the music. The result embodies the vibrant, timeless energy of soul music and gives new and continued life to the heartfelt genre.
Today they release the B-Side track on a two track vinyl. Soul A GO GO featuring Cara Robinson and the Wolfgramm Sisters, is the hip swinging soul tune that the people didn’t realise they needed. It’s all day music – for 2am on the dance floor or 9am moving around the kitchen floor. Today also marks the start of your chance to pre-order this exclusive vinyl. One month from today will see the vinyl released with the A-side ‘Soul A Go Go feat. Josh Teskey’ along with today release as the B-Side.
Soul Messin’ Records was originally set up in 2016 as an outlet for Cookin’ On 3 Burners recordings but has rapidly expanded to include The Jake Mason Trio and Soul Messin’ Allstars with more artists and releases round the corner.
Soul A Go Go will be released as a limited edition 7-inch on October 18th.
