Sydney’s popular Lights of Christmas will transform St Mary’s Cathedral into a spectacular show of light and sound for the third year, promising to delight audiences nightly and send Christmas wishes around the globe from 13 – 25 December.
Enjoyed by tens of thousands of people over the last two years, this free all weather event is perfect for friends and family to come together in the city and celebrate Christmas on Sydney’s balmy summer evenings.
Presented by the Archdiocese of Sydney and Australian Catholic University, Lights of Christmas features remarkable projections and an immersive soundscape from 8:30pm until late, and on selected evenings is accompanied by the city’s best soaring choral voices.
This year Sydney will wish the world a Merry Christmas with a live stream accessible globally and audiences encouraged to snap a photograph of the projections and share it with loved ones afar.
Projected over the 75 metre high and 33 metre wide façade of the majestic sandstone Cathedral, the stunning illuminations tell a story of unity, where all of Australia’s cultures and backgrounds come together and wish the world peace and harmony.
In celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the artworks that adorn the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo, the iconic image of life and a series of images of Madonna and Child will complete the story.
Produced by AGB Events with Creative Director Anthony Bastic and with light projections powered by TDC, Lights of Christmas adds sparkle to the Sydney Christmas event calendar and is a great free night out to share with friends and family.
