Sticky Fingers is a very intriguing name for a band. They’ve described themselves on their site in one sentence: “If the Clash, Pink Floyd and Arctic Monkeys are three beads of sweat that meet rolling down your back, Sticky Fingers are at the bottom licking it up.”
The band began their rise when drummer, Beaker and bass player Paddy Fingers, met busker Dylan Frost one night in early 2009 outside the Coopers Arms Hotel in Newtown. Dylan, fresh from New Zealand, was on the streets with his guitar busking outside the pub. “We met him,” Paddy says, “when the Coopers Arms bouncer started telling us we should give him some money.”
Frost’s melodic sense brings the Kiwi spirit and melodic lineage to the band. Despite being the youngest member of the band (the rest of the band are 22), he has 21 years of life and a hundred years of heartbreak in his voice.
The Sydney-based act released their debut album ‘Caress Your Soul’ in March this year, which resulted in national airplay and saw them embark on their first European tour.
Now the boys return to our shores and have brought back with them a brand new video clip, swag of tour dates, and probably a few things a doctor should check out.
There’s only one thing that can be said about their new music video, ‘Freddy Crabs’ – it is a captivating, hilarious, psychedelic road trip. Cast away on a desert island, the band are left to fend for themselves against the crab-wielding figure in red, resulting in the battle to end all battles, with the enemy destroyed by a ripping guitar solo.
Having played 30 gigs in 40 days in four countries, selling out gigs in Camden and Amsterdam, and picking up agents in Europe and the UK, who knows what will be in store for their upcoming Australian leg.
The boys will kick of their tour in Perth in September, travelling across the country before finishing up at Mullumbimby Fest, New South Wales in November.
Sticky Fingers’ album ‘Caress Your Soul’ is available now in stores and online through MGM.
